TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH “” The inaugural “Drive Away Hunger” charity event at Miller Motorsports Park was an unqualified success, attracting over 200 vehicles and collecting 1,882 pounds of food and over $600 in cash to benefit the Utah Food Bank. Vehicles started lining up at 10:00 am on Saturday, December 6, with non-perishable food items donated in exchange for an opportunity to drive five laps around Miller Motorsports Park’s 2.2-mile East Course behind a pace car. Over the course of five hours, the MMP Ford Mustang GT pace car circulated almost non-stop as eager fans got to experience just a taste of what some of the world’s finest racers go through on North America’s finest road racing course. Over 200 vehicles, many of which were repeat customers paying $25 for additional opportunities to take to the track, participated throughout the course of the day. The vehicles ranged from sports cars to motorcycles, family sedans, pickup trucks and SUVs, and everyone had a big smile on their face as they pulled off the track at the end of their five laps. Volunteers from the Utah National Guard helped load the collected food, which totaled 1,882 pounds or the rough equivalent of 1,441 meals, into the waiting Utah Food Bank truck. In addition, over $600 in cash from repeat participants was also donated. “We were thrilled with the outcome of the inaugural ‘Drive Away Hunger’ event,” said Dan Davis, President and CEO of Miller Motorsports Park. “This was a great way for us to give something back to the community that has been so supportive of our facility, and to do so in a way that allowed the public to have some fun at the same time. We’re looking forward to next year, and are already working on plans to make it an even bigger and better event.” “Miller Motorsports Park’s generosity in hosting this event is appreciated as we progress through the holiday season,” Jim Pugh, Utah Food Bank Services executive director, said. “This fresh approach to generating food and cash donations is a great example of how businesses can use their unique niches to help those less fortunate in our community.” For tickets or information regarding Miller Motorsports Park, call 435-277-RACE (7223) or visit the track’s website at www.MillerMotorsportsPark.com.
