INDIANAPOLIS, Monday, Nov. 5, 2007 Charlie Morgan, veteran Indianapolis broadcast executive, has been named president and chief operating officer of IMS Productions, an Indianapolis-based broadcasting company affiliated with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Tony George, CEO of IMS, announced the appointment Nov. 5, saying, “Charlie Morgan is one of most respected broadcast executives in the country and is uniquely qualified to lead IMS Productions into an exciting future.” Morgan until recently served as vice president and market manager of WFMS/WJJK/WFT for Susquehanna Radio Corporation and Cumulus Media Partners. WFMS-FM has been a perennial market-leading station in the Indianapolis under his leadership. He also has close ties to IMS, serving on the board of directors of the 500 Festival and currently serving as its chairman. “As a lifelong Indianapolis resident, having the chance to join the leadership team at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a privilege; a real dream come true,” Morgan said. “The commitment to excellence at IMS Productions in both staff and facilities makes this one of the finest organizations of its kind in the country, and the opportunities we have in today’s media environment are significant.” George noted that the role of IMS Productions has expanded in recent years to include responsibility for the New Media category, which encompasses many of the Internet and mobile-related technologies that represent a growing area for content distribution. “IMS Productions is primarily a content creation and distribution company, and Charlie Morgan has a record of accomplishment in the media business which prepares him well for this new challenge,” George said. The firm provides technical services to ABC and ESPN for broadcasting of the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race and the other races of the IndyCar Series. In addition, the firm is noted for its excellent production content. In the last two years, IMSP has garnered Telly, Summit and the Cine Golden Eagle awards. “Heart to Heart,” a documentary about young Indianapolis resident Bailey Hunsberger, won best documentary in the New York Independent Film Festival earlier this year and was also one of 60 films selected out of more than 500 entries to be screened at this year’s prestigious Heartland Film Festival. IMSP also operates the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network, the pioneer in radio racing networks, originating broadcasts of the Indianapolis 500, all IndyCar Series races and the Allstate 400 at the Brickyard. Also, the firm operates its own production truck division, with broadcast control trucks provided for racing events and also used in the offseason by a number of networks and independent producers. Morgan succeeds the late Buddy McAtee, who led the company for the last decade before his death in February 2007. “Buddy had many talents and contributed so much to racing, to IMS, the IndyCar Series and IMSP,” George said. “While all of his talents cannot be replaced, I am confident we have found a good leader for IMS Productions.” Morgan is a graduate of Butler University, where he earned cum laude honors with a bachelor of science in radio and television. He started at Susquehanna in 1985 as an on-air personality and rose through the ranks serving as station manager, and vice president and general manager of various stations in the Susquehanna portfolio. Under Morgan’s leadership, WFMS has been honored as the Large Market Country Music Station of the year five times since 1997 by the Country Music Association along with numerous other awards. The station also led the market for 33 consecutive rating books. His civic involvement also includes serving as chair of the Indianapolis Civic Theater board of directors, the radio chair of the Country Radio Broadcasters board of directors and vice chair for radio of the Indiana Broadcasters Association. He is a 2000 graduate of the Stanley K. Lacy Leadership Program.
