The 10-year, $34.6-million naming rights deal with Infineon Technologies that transformed Sears Point Raceway into Infineon Raceway in 2002 is due to expire on June 1, 2012 and will not be renewed. The news was announced March 7 via the fourth quarter and year-end financial report from Speedway Motorsports Inc. (SMI), the parent company of the Sonoma, California track, which read, in part: “The [2012 earnings] guidance also reflects expiration of Infineon Raceway’s naming rights agreement and reduced NASCAR ancillary rights revenues.” “The Infineon naming rights deal expires as of June 1, and they will not be renewing the deal,” Diana Brennan, Director of Media and Community, confirmed to Roadracingworld.com Thursday. “For the AMA [Pro Road Racing] event will we still be Infineon Raceway. After that, we will likely use sort of a generic Sonoma moniker to give our sales guys a little more time to sell the naming rights again, if we don’t have a new naming rights partner by June 1.” The non-renewal of the deal by Infineon Technologies was no surprise to Sears Point Raceway management, says Brennan. “We’ve know for a couple of years that they likely wouldn’t be returning,” said Brennan. “Basically, when the deal was signed the [Infineon Technologies] management was very invested and interested in motorsports, and a couple of years later the whole management changed and their business model and marketing plans changed. It just wasn’t a good fit for them anymore.” As for the status of a new naming rights partner coming on board, Brennan said, “We’re talking to a few companies. Nothing is finalized or close to being finalized at this point, but we are talking to a few companies.” The West Coast Moto Jam, which includes Round Three of the AMA Pro Road Racing series, is scheduled for May 4-6 at Infineon Raceway.
