Cypress CA. – The Jamie James Yamaha Champions Riding school recently completed it’s first class of the 2008 season at Barber Motorsports Park near Birmingham, Alabama. Led by AMA Champion Jamie James as well as World Superbike and AMA Superbike Champion Scott Russell, the special guest instructor for the inaugural school was 5-time Yamaha AMA 250cc National Champion Rich Oliver. Over the course of two days the students split time in the classroom and on the track and observed riding techniques demonstrated by Scott Russell and Rich Oliver. Rich Oliver, who took a break from his own Rich Oliver Mystery School to instruct, said “This was a great opportunity to work with Jamie and Scott again and share our combined National Championship winning experience with the students”¦”¦and based on the feedback we were well received!” Students especially enjoyed the question and answer sessions with the panel of pro instructors. Student Paul Sutton said, “My favorite part of the school was the track walk with Rich and Scott giving passing laps and lines. I enjoyed Jamie’s interaction with all the students.” Barry Gunning, a NESBA control rider said, “My riding improved by the end of the first day”. Student Marty Vargas favorites were “The level of skill of all the instructors and their ability to put it in layman’s terms plus the amount of track time”. And Paul Layman, 72 years young and very fast according to the instructors, said, “I want to thank Yamaha for this new effort to work with Jamie James and put this school together, it was a great experience working with these top notch instructors and the Barber track.” At the end of day two, each student was awarded an autographed group picture of Scott, Jamie and Rich along with a graduation certificate and t-shirt. In the post school survey completed by the students the school received near perfect marks from all in attendance. To add to the excitement local Yamaha dealer, Big #1 Motorsports joined in the fun by sponsoring an event evening and dinner in the Barber Motorsports Museum.
