Kawasaki Motors’ appeal against Jamie Stauffer’s disqualification from the second race at this year’s Australian Superbike Championship round at Mallala (SA) on June 5 has been dismissed by an independent judicial committee. At Mallala, Stauffer was deemed to have competed with a modified swingarm in the second Superbike race, and all his points accrued for finishing seventh (14) were wiped. A steward’s hearing on July 27 then upheld the decision made at Mallala on June 5. Kawasaki Motors then sought to reverse the decision, but its appeal was recently dismissed by a three-person judicial committee, which could not find “that the modification to the swingarm was done ‘by or with the approval of the manufacturer’. This means the appeal cannot succeed”. With the 21-day appeal window to that decision now closed, Stauffer finishes on 254pts in the seven-round 2005 Australian Superbike Championship, which concluded at Phillip Island (Vic) last weekend.
