Brown Doubles Again
Jason Brown took two more wins at the fourth round of the Arroyo Seco Motorcyclist Association Championship Series June 12 at Arroyo Seco Raceway, in New Mexico. In an almost duplicate of the April 3rd round, the last time the races were held on the Clockwise direction, Brown won 2 out of the 3 premier unlimited races.
In the Kurveygirl.com Unlimited SuperStock race, Brown took the holeshot followed by Mikey Shreve and David Hurtado. The top 3 stayed within a second of each other for the entire race, but with all riders turning in lap times that were all within a tenth of each other, there were no passes for the duration of the race. In Amateur Unlimited Superstock action, Joe Chasser was able to pull out a significant lead over runner up Anthony Gipson and James Yogi.
All eyes watched the start of the Evan Steel Performance Formula Arroyo race, as the top 3 riders are all within a couple points, and the action has been excellent all season between them. Once again, Jason Brown took the holeshot followed by Mikey Shreve and Eric Sotomayor, while points leader and two time winner this season David Hurtado was down in 7th place after a poor start. On lap 2 Hurtado was up to 4th and closing in on Sotomayor, making the pass on lap 3 to get into a podium spot and towing Sotomayor and Thibault Few towards the lead duo of Brown and Shreve to once again make a 5 rider battle for the win. Unfortunately Few suffered brake fade the following lap and was unable to continue.
Following 6 laps of probing for a pass, Mikey Shreve took a different line and out drove Brown down the back straight and into the lead, but less than a lap later ran wide into Yucca and Brown was able to take back the position at the front. Shreve recovered in time to keep his position. At that point, the finishing position was set with Brown taking his 2nd ever ESP Formula Arroyo win, Shreve taking his 4th runner up finish in 4 tries and Hurtado taking another podium spot. Eric Sotomayor made a great return to racing, finishing 4th and returning veteran Tom Savoca was another rider to up his game and get into the 1:09 lap times, taking 5th place.
Joe Janiga took home wins in Middleweight SuperStock and Middleweight Superbike, riding with an injured hand from the May ASMA round. Janiga won both races comfortably over Dan Dickerman and Greg Talbot respectively.
Thibault Few got a win after brake problems earlier in the day, finishing ahead of Tom Savoca and Josh Kauffman in the Twigs Jewels Unlimited Superbike race.
The Arroyo Seco Motorcyclist Association will take two months of racing off, returning September 10-11th for the second half of the year. We would like to thank all of our riders, crew, and family members that make it possible for us to do what we’re passionate about.
