Open Superstock Expert – 6 LAPS

The first race of the day was the Open Superstock event. Robert Jensen jumped into the early lead with Taylor Knapp right behind him in second place. A couple laps into the race Knapp came under pressure from Tray Batey who had run down the two leaders.

Batey and Knapp battled for second place but Batey ran into problems late in the race and dropped back to finish fifth leaving Knapp to finish second and moving Dane Westby up to third place. Zac Chapman moved himself up to forth position and challenged for third but ultimately Westby came out ahead of the pair as he fended Chapman off for the final podium position.

Robert Jensen fought to the lead of the 600 Superstock race on the first lap. Chad Lewin challenged the remaining field first by catching and passing Garrett Willis for third spot. Lewin then ran down second place rider Taylor Knapp and the two began battling for the position.

Meanwhile Robert Jensen ran into problems crashing out of the lead in turn 11 leaving Knapp and Lewin to battle for the win. Knapp ran into mechanical problems somewhere during the last lap and dropped all the way back to ninth place finishing a with his hand in the air letting other riders behind him know he had a problem and was slowing. This left Jimmy Wood to take over the third place spot and finish the race behind Chad Lewin and Garrett Willis.

Robert Jenson returned to the action for the 750 Superstock race and jumped right back into his familiar spot out front. This time he was not alone. Tray Batey was right on top of Jensen and the two riders immediately began to place a gap on the rest of the field. Behind the leaders the battle for third was nowhere near as decided. Garrett Willis had the number three spot but John Jacobi was right behind him looking for a way to get onto the podium. As the race progressed, both battles heated up.

Batey closed up the gap on Jensen and began looking for a way to move into the lead. Meanwhile, Jacobi was all over the back of Willis for the final podium spot. Jacobi made the pass on Willis and moved himself into 3rd place. Once in the possition he was not giving Willis any chance to get it back. Willis continued to try and find a way to catch Jacobi but this time it was not going to be. At the finish Jacobi held onto the number three spot but had to watch the leaders as headed for the finish.

Batey followed Jensen the entire way looking to take advantage of even the slightest opportunity. With a slight lead and only a lap remaining in the race Jensen was not to be taken lightly while he tried to make up for his mistake in the earlier 600cc race. Jensen held strongly to his position and took his first victory of the day beating Batey to the line for the win.

WERA Formula One

The Formula One race turned out to be one of the best and most eventful of the weekend. From the start Robert Jensen, Taylor Knapp, Tray Batey, Dane Westby, Alessandro Assanti and Russell Wikle began to distance themselves from the rest of the field.

The battle up front intensified when Jensen and Knapp tried to pull away from the field. Batey was not to be denied and closed the distance. The three lead riders pulled out a slight gap but the action back in the pack was still heated. John Jacobi moved up to sixth displacing Wilde and Assanti in the process. Jimmy Wood and James Randolph had also battled their way into the last two of the top ten spots.

The top three riders were still sizing each other up at the front. Two laps remained when Knapp made a mistake in turn 6 and was moved back to third while Jensen took the lead and Batey picked up second place. Less than half a lap later Knapp moved himself back into the lead with great moves on Batey and then on Jensen in turn five.

On the final lap Taylor Knapp held off the challenges from both riders to take the win. Further back in the field forth place went to Dane Westby. Zac Chapman also made a name for himself moving up the field and passing John Jacobi for a fifth place finish.
