Butler Machinery’s Robert Jensen won the Open Superstock, 600cc Superstock, and Formula 1 races during the seventh round of the Michelin/WERA National Challenge Series held at Summit Point Raceway in Summit Point, West Virginia Sunday. Jensen, who first broke his own track record riding a GSX-R1000 during morning warm-up, got the holeshot in the Open Superstock race, but the race was red-flagged after Vesrah Suzuki’s John Jacobi highsided exiting turn one.
Jensen pulled away in the re-started Open Superstock race, lowering the track record to 1:13.244 and winning by 1.184 seconds over Vesrah Suzuki’s Tray Batey.
Jensen got his second win of the day in the red-flag-shortened 600cc Superstock race. Jensen again got the holeshot and held off Vesrah Suzuki’s Lee Acree until the race was red-flagged on lap eight of 10 when Brian Gibbs crashed.
Vesrah Suzuki’s Tray Batey won the Heavyweight Twins race over RoadracingWorld.com/Vesrah Racing’s Chris Ulrich, who had been recruited to ride a Vesrah SV1000 by Vesrah Suzuki’s Mark Junge to ensure the Heavyweight Twins Superstock race had enough entries to pay Suzuki contingency money. Batey led off the start, but was quickly reeled in by Ulrich, who turned the fastest lap of the race and challenged and passed Batey. Ulrich wasn’t able to make a pass stick as the lead pair raced through traffic and finished in second place, 0.6-second behind Batey.
Jensen again got the holeshot in the 750cc Superstock race and led until he crashed in turn one at the start of the third lap. Jensen’s crash opened the door for Junge to take the lead with his Vesrah Suzuki teammate Lee Acree–riding a GSX-R600–closely in tow. Junge and Acree swapped the lead several times until Junge and his GSX-R750 powered by Acree to take the win.
Jensen won the Formula One race over Batey in a race that saw the track record broken four times between the two riders. Jensen used his Michelin-DOT-shod GSX-R1000 to lower his own track record to 1:13.219, and a lap later Batey, riding a Pirelli slick-equipped GSX-R1000, responded with a 1:13.204. Then Jensen, who cleary had a power advantage over Batey, turned a 1:13.173 followed by a 1:13.059 and pulled away to win by 2.1 seconds.
