Jerry Hicks Wins Five UtahSBA Races At Utah Motorsports Campus

Jerry Hicks Wins Five UtahSBA Races At Utah Motorsports Campus

© 2019, Roadracing World Publishing, Inc. From a press release issued By James Krstich on behalf of UtahSBA:.

After a six-week break, the Utah Sport Bike Association Law Tigers Masters of the Mountains Road Racing series was back in action on August 24-25 at Utah Motorsports Campus, East Configuration in Grantsville, UT. With only three more race rounds, the riders are looking to secure their spots in the championship points. The Premier Class points leader, Jerry Hicks, secures his first win in the King of the Mountain Combined class. Hicks also took wins in Heavyweight Superbike, Middleweight Superbike, Open Superbike, and KoM GTU.

Hicks had this to say about his weekend: “I’d say the weekend was bittersweet. I was psyched to take a handful of wins, but I must admit I did have quite a bit of help from others’ misfortune. After working through some setup changes on Saturday, while riding on used tires and regular fuel, I was able to match my personal best lap time. I still had a bit of time to drop to match the times that Kory was doing, but I thought with fresh rubber and race fuel, I’d have a chance to stick with him during Sunday’s races.

On Sunday, I qualified well for the King of the Mountain race, so I was feeling confident. I got a good start in the race and found myself behind Kory with Zac Miller following closely. After a couple of laps, Kory’s clutch was failing, so he let me pass for the lead. From there, I pushed hard to try to break away from Zac, who was a real threat this weekend. Eventually, I got away and was able to take the win. Thank you, Kory, at MotoStation for building me an awesome R6 that can hang with the big bikes and is ridiculously fun to ride. Thanks to the MotoStation team for all the support and camaraderie. Thanks to the UtahSBA for running a great event and putting in so much effort so the rest of us can have a good time. Mostly, thanks to my wife, Carrie for your continued love and support.”

The Deseret Dash Dominator, Zac Miller, has been pushing hard all season and is the current points leader in Deseret Dash Expert. Atop his BMW S1000RR, Miller has shown a strong presence in this class, which is traditionally the biggest grid of the weekend. After winning both Dash races and KoM GTO, Miller had this to say, “On Saturday I focused on solid, consistent lap times and was able to break away from the pack to win both expert Deseret Dash races. The grid for Open Superstock was stacked, and I pushed hard from start to finish, ending up 2nd behind Shane Turpin. It was simply unreal watching Shane rip around the track, while I could still see him of course! Despite Saturday being a complete success, I knew I needed to find more speed for King of the Mountain on Sunday.

Sunday started off with a bang as I qualified on pole for King of the Mountain, and then ended the day with a win in the GTO class of King of the Mountain! Winning that race has been my goal since I started racing in 2017 and it’s absolutely surreal to think I manifested such an accomplishment through hard work, determination and resilience. I owe a big shout out to MotoStation and Kory Cowan for being an invaluable resource, service, and mentor from the very beginning and enabling me to progress the way that I have.”

Novice Racer Jason Grant brought home five more race wins this weekend. Jason is the current points leader in Novice GTU and GTO, Combined GTU and GTO, and Deseret Dash Novice. With 23 podiums including 15 wins, Grant’s riding has been consistent and fast. When asked about his weekend, Grant said, “I was fortunate to race with two of my sons, Liam and Jasper this weekend. We were able to achieve 10 wins and two second place finishes, which was a great feeling! Liam has been racing MotoAmerica Junior Cup starting with the Utah round. This has taken an even bigger sacrifice from my family to allow me to compete this whole season with the UtahSBA. Thank you to my wife Leanne who flew out to support us and made it possible for us to race this weekend. I was extra focused this weekend to make sure I gave my best with all the help she has given me. Thank you also to Ken Hill and the Rickdiculous program for their training and to Geoff Cesmat and MotoStation in Salt Lake City for helping us keep our equipment competitive.”

Round 5, including the Endurance Race will be held September 14–15, 2019 at UMC, Outer Configuration. Registration is open now. Register before September 7, 2019 to receive the early-bird discount rate for Round 5. Visit www.motorsportsreg.com to register now.
