Johann Zarco knew exactly what he wanted for 2020: A bike he could be competitive on.
The two-time Moto2 World Champion and MotoGP podium finisher walked away from
a KTM contract midway through 2019, saying he was unhappy with the still-under-development machine and what it was doing to his confidence.
Thrown a lifeline by the LCR Honda Idemitsu team for a three-race fill-in role to end the 2019 season, Zarco started repairing the damage to his confidence. His results on the year-old Honda RC213V showed him to be at least at the level of Honda rider Takaaki Nakagami, whose place on LCR he took while the Japanese rider recovered from shoulder surgery.
In his second race on the bike, Zarco led LCR teammate Cal Crutchlow in Sepang and ran eighth before he was rammed by Joan Mir and sent into the gravel trap …
