Gregory LEBLANC (Honda CBR600RR), 1:40.922 More, from a press release issued by HANNspree Ten Kate Honda: Seventh front row domination for HANNspree Ten Kate Honda The second day of qualifying for round 12 of the 2007 World Supersport Championship ended in triumph for HANNspree Ten Kate Honda. For the seventh time this season, both Sébastien Charpentier and Kenan Sofuoglu will start Sunday’s race from the front row of the grid. Despite the constant threat of rain from the dark clouds overhead, both sessions at the 4.110km Vallelunga circuit took place in dry conditions. The day started well for HANNspree Ten Kate Honda with Charpentier topping the free practice time sheet and Sofuoglu putting in a consistent race distance simulation. Both riders then went on to dominate the top four in the afternoon qualifying, setting the fastest lap five times between them during the 45-minute session. When Charpentier secured an impressive lap time of 1’39.458, it looked almost certain that he would clinch pole position. However, the accolade was taken by Craig Jones who beat the Frenchman by just one tenth of a second. Team-mate Kenan Sofuoglu was not far behind and his best lap time of 1’39.679 sees him secure a place on the front row for the twelfth time in as many rounds. At the end of the session, Charpentier and Sofuoglu were second and third respectively and both riders are confident ahead of the penultimate race of the 2007 World Supersport Championship tomorrow. Ronald ten Kate, Team Manager: “It’s really good to be on the front row for Sunday’s race – I am happy to see both the boys up there. Clearly they were both aiming for pole, but Craig Jones made quite an incredible lap and our guys just missed out. Anway, tomorrow is the race and starting from the front row is the important thing. We have already done race distance with Kenan and it’s looking good. I hope the weather is a bit more consistent tomorrow because we don’t want to deal with tyre changes, but we are ready to race.” Sébastien Charpentier: “I tried my best today. This morning the session went really well and we did some good lap times, preparing the bike for tomorrow. This afternoon everyone seemed to improve. When I saw my 1’39.4 lap time I thought I was in a good position to get the pole, but then Craig Jones did a faster time and beat me to it! Congratulations to him because it is an impressive lap. I am feeling confident – we have changed the engine in the bike and it’s feeling very stable. The team is working really hard and I am looking forward to the race.” Kenan Sofuoglu: “It was very difficult out there today, everyone was very close. I am quite happy though – we tried something different today and it was a lot better. I did a good race distance this morning and my laps were consistent. I achieved my ambition of getting on the front row, which is always my aim. I have been on the front row for every round so far so I’m pleased to continue that. I am prepared for the race – I am doing fast laps and although my time today wasn’t good enough to get pole, I think it is good enough to win the race. We’ll have to wait and see tomorrow!”
