Aurora, IL (July 30, 2008) Michael Jordan Motor Sports Suzuki’s Aaron Yates, who earned the team’s first AMA Superbike podium finish of the season at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca two weeks ago, looks to continue the momentum and revisit the podium when the Jordan Suzuki team travels to the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio, August 1-3, 2008. At last season’s AMA Superbike doubleheader weekend at Mid-Ohio, Yates earned back-to-back fourth place finishes after he qualified his Suzuki GSX-R1000 with a time of 1:25.030 (merely .891 off the pole position) for a front row start for his Jordan Suzuki crew. So far this season, Yates has earned five top-five finishes and an additional four top-eight finishes in the premier Superbike class. He is currently seventh in overall Superbike points, only 25 points from the top five. With the mid-season break and limited class schedule at the last round, Yates will be riding in the Superstock class for the time in nearly eight weeks. Last season at Mid-Ohio, weather conditions forced officials to cancel the Superstock race, a disappointing turn of events for the Jordan team, as Yates had qualified third for the event. “I’m really looking forward to getting back on the bike,” said Yates, the current Superstock championship points leader. “I hope for a good performance and to increase the points lead toward the championship.” Yates, a strong finisher at the 2.4 mile, 15-turn Mid-Ohio road course, has won in four different classes of racing action (Superbike, Supersport, 750 Supersport and Superstock). Yates’ Jordan Suzuki teammate Geoff May is also hoping for a podium finish this weekend. At Mid-Ohio in 2006, May narrowly missed the podium when he earned fourth place finishes in the AMA Supersport and Superstock events. Last year, May qualified fifth and sixth respectively, prior to the cancellation of the races. A rookie with Jordan Suzuki, May has earned three Superstock podium finishes, including his first AMA National win, in six outings with his new team. He is currently third in overall points in the AMA Superstock championship and ninth in the AMA Superbike standings. With two Superbike races and a Superstock race scheduled this weekend, both riders have the opportunity to reach the podium three times during their visit to Lexington, Ohio. Race winners earn 36 valuable points toward the championship. The Mid-Ohio races will be broadcast on SpeedTV.com.
