The motorcycling community will be turning out in force on Friday, March 6, in a show of support for veteran motojournalist Andrew Trevitt. A silent auction will be held in conjunction with the “Bike Nite in the Daylite” public motorcycle show, in Kawasaki’s product display area at Daytona International Speedway. Trevitt, the popular senior editor at Sport Rider magazine, suffered catastrophic injuries in a bike/car accident last November. After multiple surgeries and an extended stay in the intensive care unit, Trevitt now faces a long road to recovery and is currently undergoing physical rehabilitation. A native of Ontario, Canada, 45-year-old Trevitt has been on the Sport Rider staff for over 10 years. He is a former Canadian National 250GP road racing champion, and spent a season as a member of the Suzuki factory team in the Canadian Superbike series. Along with more than 30 years of riding and racing experience, Trevitt also has a formal education in engineering, a knowledge base that he’s used to earn the nickname “The Geek” to Sport Rider’s many readers. Auction items will include signed racing memorabilia and other moto-centric items. All proceeds will be passed along to Trevitt, to help cover his medical expenses, rehabilitation and support. “Despite the incredibly difficult circumstances, Andrew’s steadfast positive attitude has been an absolute inspiration to us all. Typical of his ‘can-do’ outlook, he’ll be returning to the magazine and contributing as soon as he’s able”¦which will be sooner than everyone thinks. He would also like to sincerely thank everyone who’s sent in words of encouragement and prayers,” said Sport Rider Editor-in-Chief, Kent Kunitsugu. On Friday, March 6 from 8:00 a.m. – 6:30 p.m., silent auction items will be displayed adjacent to the “Bike Nite in the Daylite” public motorcycle show in Kawasaki’s product display at Daytona International Speedway. Written “silent” bids will be accepted in person at the display and winning bidders will be contacted on Friday evening, prior to the start of the Daytona 200. In addition to the silent auction, interested supporters will also have a chance to participate in an eBay auction of select Trevitt Benefit items, from Friday, February 27 through Sunday, March 8, 2009.
