Camacho, Kelsey, and Whitten Take Multiple Podiums at Texas World Speedway with the CMRA

James Camacho Jr., Danny Kelsey, and Jim Whitten all took multiple podiums during CMRA’s round nine sprint event on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Texas World Speedway, College Station, TX. A cold front and rain made for slick conditions in the morning, giving way to sunshine and temperatures climbing into the low 80’s by lunch time for great conditions by early afternoon on the 2.9-mile course.

Kelsey took five podiums home, winning the Breast Cancer Research Foundation/P1 Racing Formula 1 Expert, RaceworX A Superstock Expert, and HighPerformanceCrew.com A Superbike Expert classes with his Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R1000. He took the win in B Superbike Expert and second in TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert on his Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R750.

In Kelsey’s first match up of the morning, track conditions were still slick for race two, TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert. Fielding his Suzuki GSX-R750 in the tricky conditions, Kelsey soon had his hands full with Eddie Thornton aboard a Kawasaki ZX-6R. Thornton wrestled the lead from Kelsey, and James Camacho Jr. was breathing down his neck from third with a Yamaha YZF-R6. Thornton held onto the lead, crossing the line 4.246 seconds ahead of Kelsey for the win. Kelsey narrowly held off Camacho, taking second with a hair’s breadth margin of 0.177-second. The race leaders furious pursuit of each other stretched out a 12 second lead over the rest of the field.

In the match up, Sunday’s headline Formula 1 Expert race, Thornton and Kelsey were at it again. This time, Thornton rode a Pirelli-shod BMW S1000RR against Kelsey’s Suzuki GSX-R1000. Thornton put down the fastest of the race on lap 2, turning an amazing 1:43.524, and taking the lead from Kelsey. Kelsey put his head down, methodically going after Thornton and taking the lead back on lap 6 with a fastest lap of 1:43.545. With Thornton on his tail, Kelsey continued to charge, and gapped Thornton by 2.352 seconds at the line for the win. William Guthrie, riding a BMW S1000RR held off Billy Gonzalez on his BMW S1000RR for third place, and Conner Blevins, Bobby Davies, Joseph Caruso, Jeff Wrobel, Peyton Inge, and Eric Williams rounded out the top 10.

Conner Blevins won the $100 P1 Racing cash purse for riding the first 600 across the finish line during the Formula 1 race. Bringing awareness to finding a cure for Breast Cancer is an important aspect of this race and a donation is made by the CMRA to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation for each entry in the race. Qualifying for the race is sponsored by 212Decals.com and Kelsey, Thornton and Guthrie all received a share of the $150 cash purse.

James Camacho Jr. and Jim Whitten also took home multiple podiums. In middleweights, Camacho grabbed the win in South Central Race Center C Superstock Expert, second in C Superbike Expert, B Superbike Expert and third in TrackTactics Track Days B Superstock Expert astride his Yamaha YZF-R6. Whitten went four for four on his Ducati 1000SS, taking home the wins in Formula 2 Expert, Lightweight Twins Expert, D Superbike Expert, and Formula 40 Lightweight Expert.

Top Novice for the weekend was Doug Frenchak with four podiums on his Yamaha YZF-R6, taking the wins in Lone Star Track Days B Superstock Novice, Moto Liberty C Superbike Novice, North Texas Superbikes B Superbike Novice, and second in House of Paint Designs C Superbike Novice, .
