From a press release issued by Suzuki Catalá: American road racer Kenny Noyes has signed to ride the two most pretigious endurance races in Spain for the Suzuki Catalá team. Eduard Catalá, owner of Suzuki Catalá, is determined to break the 3-3 tie with archrival Folch Yamaha in the classic 24 Hours of Catalunya. Since the event moved to the full 2.9 mile Grand Prix circuit in the year 2001, the Catalá and Folch teams have fought at the front. Last year the Barcelona marathon, considered a prolongation of the 24 Hours of Barcelona races run at Montjuic Park in central Barcelona until 1986, was won by the BQR Honda team from Folch Yamaha. The number 1 Suzuki Catalá team retired after a crash-related mechanical problem and the second Catalá team came home fourth. This year’s race starts on July 5th. Noyes has finished on the podium twice in his three starts in the 24 Hours, taking third with Suzuki Catalá and second with Folch Yamaha. Back with Suzuki again, Kenny will team with Diego Lozano, an endurance specialist who has scored a win, a second and three thirds in the Barcelona race. The team will also contest the Spanish round of the World Endurance Championship, the Six Hours of Albacete on May 11th. Noyes was second at the Albacete World Championship round in 2005 riding for Folch Yamaha. Spanish teams have finished second once and third twice in the World Championship round of Albacete and last year’s race was won by Kawasaki France with Spaniard Julian Mazuecos setting the fastest lap of 1´32.541. The eventual championship-winning team, SERT Suzuki, was second a lap of behind with the Spanish Folch Yamaha team third. The Albacete round is the shortest and most intense endurance race on the World Championship schedule and, therefore, Catalá is building his team with top riders from the Spanish Formula Extreme series who have shown the ability to maintain a race pace at Albacete in the 1’32-1´33 range in Nationals. Noyes rides for Motorrad Suzuki and Lozano for Joe Darcey Honda en the Spanish 1000cc FX Championship.
