Former AMA Pro road racer Dale Kieffer was the big winner at the final round of the Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association’s inaugural season, taking five victories, including the featured SoCal Track Days Unlimited Shootout.

Aboard his Racers Edge-backed, Michelin-shod Suzuki GSX-R1000, Kieffer stalked Canadian racer Pete deGraaf aboard his Suzuki GSX-R1000, which was rolling on Dunlop rubber.

DeGraaf led the first three laps of the event, running consistently in the 1:50 range the club racing in the counterclockwise direction on the 2.68-mile circuit. Kieffer matched deGraaf’s lap times, then immediately after the crossed flags flew at halfway, Kieffer passed deGraaf and threw down a 1:49.769, the fastest lap of the race.

DeGraaf responded, dropping his lap times into the 1:49s, but could not match Kieffer’s pace and had to settle for a comfortable second. Kieffer attributed his performance to the capabilities of Michelin’s new Power Cup DOT race tire, introduced at the WERA GNF just days before the CVMA event.

Following the pair of veteran racers across the stripe was Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup race winner Joe Roberts, the 14-year-old making his competition debut with CVMA on a BMW S1000RR.

Roberts, working with former AMA National road racer and California Superbike School Chief Mechanic Will Eikenberry, kept his head, rode smoothly and recovered from a crash earlier in the day to run 1:51 lap times and put his very stock BMW S1000RR on the podium.

Roberts best time of the weekend was an impressive 1:50.327, set in the Formula Open race on Sunday, when he finished third. Roberts would add a third in Saturday’s Formula Open and a second in Saturday’s SuperSport Open to his trophy haul for the weekend.

Kieffer also hauled down wins in the Formula Open and SuperSport Open classes on both days, and deGraaf won both Formula 40 races.

Loren Black and his Yamaha YZF-R6 ruled the Middleweight classes, taking the win in the TrackDaz Middleweight Shootout on Sunday. Black was flying, knocking down a 1:49.679 in Saturday’s SuperSport Middleweight race.

Young Andrew Zabzdyr demonstrated the speed he has been quietly building all season long in the 650 twins classes, taking the win in the Lightweight Shootout on Sunday with a best lap of 1:55.054 aboard his West Coast GP Cycles backed, Pirelli-shod Suzuki SV650. Zabzdyr was quicker still in Sunday’s Formula Twins race, notching a best lap of 1:55.027, and was only a tick slower on his SuperSport-spec SV650, turning a best of 1:57.850 in Saturday’s SuperSport Twins race.
