KIPP ON MOSPORT POLE BOWMANVILLE, ON Tom Kipp will start from pole position for this weekend’s fourth and fifth rounds of the Parts Canada Superbike Championship at Mosport International Raceway after setting the fastest time in qualifying Friday. The Chardon, OH rider took his Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX10R around the 3.957km Mosport road circuit in one minute, 21.626 seconds for an average speed of 174.464 km/h. “We started yesterday with a very good base set-up and the bike’s pretty easy to ride,” said Kipp after claiming his second Vicious-I Pole Position Award of the season. “The bike’s working really well and it’s easy for me to concentrate and focus on my lines.” His teammate and Parts Canada Superbike Championship points leader Jordan Szoke of Brantford, ON placed second at 1:21.753 and Granby, QC’s Kevin Lacombe was third riding the Picotte Performance / Yamaha Canada / Toyota Yamaha YZF-R1 with a time of 1:22.043. Defending series champion Francis Martin of Rock Forest, QC will complete the front row for the Superbike races on Saturday and Sunday after setting a time of 1:22.435 on his Team Suzuki / Blackfoot Suzuki GSX-R1000. Kipp set his time with just over three minutes remaining in the 40-minute qualifying session, which dropped Szoke to second in the order. Szoke tried to reply as the clock wound down but was unable to match his teammate’s effort. “I just didn’t put a lap together,” said Szoke, who has won the first three rounds of the 2006 Parts Canada Superbike season. “The bike’s fantastic but I just could not get a clear lap.” Szoke did pick up three points for his qualifying effort and extended his lead in the standings to 42 points over Lacombe, who earned two points for placing third. A race win is worth 50 points. Pascal Picotte of St-Cecile Milton, QC, who has won the past four Superbike features at Mosport, qualified fifth on his Picotte Performance / Yamaha Canada / Toyota Yamaha YZF-R1 with a time of 1:22.554.
