Klaus Klaffenböck and his sidecar passenger Christian Parzer won a round of the IGM (International Sidecar Championship) held at Most in the Czech Republic during the Easter weekend. Practice was held on Easter Sunday and it was the first roll out of the team’s new LCR Honda Sidecar. The IGM runs an open championship for all classes of sidecar and the Klaffi pair knew they would be up against many strong teams from the German international championship. The weekend at Most was an important one for Klaffi and Parzer and it was their opportunity to run in the new sidecar. They also needed to take part in this race to qualify for their license for the Isle of Man TT. It wasn’t an easy weekend for the team as they used the F2 and had to compete with sidecars of the long F2 version, which run with plus 400ccm. Commenting on the weekend Parzer said, “On Sunday the whole day was very busy. We optimised the suspension and run in a new engine. Now it is perfect. The sidecar is a masterpiece of Louis Christen!” Klaffi also said, “We couldn’t open the throttle on Sunday which made our lap times not so good. It meant we had to start in the middle of the grid for the race on Monday.” Once the racing began Klaffi and Parzer got into the thick of the action as Klaffi explains, “When we were fired up during the race, we passed all the sidecars in front. We beat Eilers/Freund and Centner/Helbig with their F1 sidecars.” The Klaffi Honda team will take part in two more races before heading for the Isle of Man TT races. They are the Mountain Course Landshaag/Upper-Austria on Sunday 15th April Sunday, and Superside Championship Schleiz/Germany on 12th 13th May.
