Knee-busting Sharp Curb Edges Are An Issue At VIR Again

FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: This last weekend my rider ALex Welsh had a mishap with a corner curb at the VIR racetrack. It split Alex’s left knee wide open. It fortunately only required stitches, but will surely be very sore. In pit gossip my crew heard that this recently happened to Jason DiSalvo (same corner curbing bit his knee, apparently much worse), and it happens to many others on a fairly regular basis. This information was delivered by cornerworkers and riders alike. It seem to me that for a track to skimp on a few hundred dollars worth of concrete to smooth a curb transition which has a history of “biting” knees, is a bit careless. Perhaps we could get a little help from the VIR track owners on this? Frank Pate, Team Owner Infinity GP Racing Frisco, Texas
