SONOMA, Calif. (May 12, 2010) Long-time AMA Pro Road Racing rider Kurtis Roberts will return to the American SuperBike circuit at Infineon Raceway this weekend for the West Coast Moto Jam, May 14-16. Roberts, a native of Turlock in central California, will join Ace Racing out of Sonoma County on a Yamaha R1 provided by team owner Ace Robey. The team is based in Windsor, just north of Infineon Raceway. “With the race in our own backyard, it was a perfect time to give it a shot,” said Roberts. “My last race was in October of 2008. It’s been difficult to put together my own team with the current economy, and I’ve tried to find and do it all by myself as best I can, but it just comes down to the lack of funding available.” Roberts, 31, has an extensive racing resume, including two championships in the AMA Formula Xtreme class (1999, 2000), as well as the AMA SuperSport class (2000). Roberts also raced internationally in the 250cc World Championship and Superbike World Championship. He is also the youngest son of three-time 500cc World Champion, Kenny Roberts, and the younger brother of 2000 500cc World Champion Kenny Roberts, Jr. “I’m hungry for the track and all its excitement,” said Roberts. “I’ve missed the feel of race day, the feel you get when you hit the grid, seeing the stands full of fans, and I’ve truly missed my friends.” Roberts will return to the track during the West Coast Moto Jam with practice and qualifying on Friday, and American SuperBike main events on Saturday and Sunday. In addition to AMA Pro Road Racing, the weekend will also feature Supermoto USA, Motocross, Flat Track and the first zero-carbon motorcycle race on U.S. soil with the TTXGP U.S. Championships.
