LACOMBE LEADS AT JENNINGS JENNINGS, Fla. Kevin Lacombe led the way in Wednesday morning’s session at the official Parts Canada Superbike Championship Pirelli tire test at the JenningsGP track in Jennings, Fla. The Granby, Que. rider took his Team Toyota Yamaha Fast Company Racing Yamaha YZF-R1 around the 2.01-mile circuit in one minute, 15.170 seconds. That was the quickest time in two days of testing at Jennings, topping the 1:15.239 set by Jordan Szoke on Tuesday afternoon. “I’m feeling really comfortable on the bike,” said Lacombe, who is making his debut with the Fast Company team, although he rode Yamahas last season. “The bikes were good when we got here. Yesterday the engine was a little peaky to ride, so today we’ve been working to smooth it out.” Lacombe also turned a time of 1:16.472 on his back-up R1, second quickest among the Superbike times set Wednesday morning. Matt McBride of Mississauga, Ont. was second fastest rider in Superbike at JenningsGP with a time of 1:16.525 on his Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Racing Suzuki GSX-R1000. That effort just nipped teammate Chris Peris of Calgary, who turned a 1:16.656 on his GSX-R1000. The third of the Blackfoot / Picotte Racing Suzukis was next up, with Rock Forest, Que.’s Francis Martin recording a 1:17.502. Fifth fastest Superbike was the Stepper Custom Homes Suzuki GSX- R1000 of Calgary’s Jeremy Stepper with a time of 1:18.411. Neither Szoke nor Brett McCormick recorded times on their Canadian Kawasaki Motors Kawasaki ZX-10R Superbikes, preferring to wait for Wednesday afternoon’s session. Szoke’s 1:15.239 remained the second fastest Superbike time of the test through Wednesday morning. McCormick’s best from Tuesday was a 1:17.419. Szoke was the only rider to turn a time in the Yoshimura Pro 600 Sport Bike class, setting a 1:15.687 on his ZX-6R. That effort easily eclipsed his 1:16.454 from Tuesday afternoon. Both the Team Toyota Yamaha Fast Company Racing and Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Racing squads planned to focus on their 600 Sport Bike equipment Wednesday afternoon. Canadian Thunder competitor Andrew Nelson recorded a fastest lap of 1:18.220 on the NCR Ducati 848, his best effort so far in the JenningsGP Pirelli test. Conditions on Wednesday morning were almost ideal, with testing held under sunny skies and warm temperatures. The Parts Canada Superbike Championship Pirelli tire test concludes Wednesday afternoon, after which the Canadian Kawasaki Motors, Team Suzuki / Blackfoot / Picotte Racing and NCR Ducati teams will travel to the second round of the AMA Superbike Championship at nearby Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama. The 2008 Canadian national season opens at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Calabogie, Ont. May 23-25.
