From a press release: LACOMBE NOW RUNNING WITH FAST COMPANY Quebec young gun joins Yamaha team; squad aims to go one better in ’08 BRESLAU, Ont. One of Canada’s rising young road racing stars will be piloting the Team Toyota Yamaha Fast Company Racing bikes in the upcoming Parts Canada Superbike Championship season. Twenty-five-year-old Kevin Lacombe will be aboard the Scott Miller-prepared Yamaha YZF-R1 Superbike and YZF-R6 600 Sport Bike when the 2008 campaign kicks off at Calabogie Motorsports Park in Calabogie, Ont. May 23-25. The Granby, Que. rider has been regarded as a future national champion ever since he made his Pro debut as a 16-year-old almost a decade ago. He has five career Canadian Superbike wins to his credit and in 2006 finished runner-up in both the Parts Canada Superbike and Pro 600 Sport Bike classes. Last season he was fourth in Superbike points with two second place finishes to his credit and sixth in the Yoshimura Pro 600 Sport Bike standings. “He’s young, he’s always been a contender; I think if we give him good equipment he’s capable of winning championships,” Miller said. “He’s shown great potential for years.” Lacombe has spent most of the winter training in Florida, where he has been cycling and riding motocross with the likes of Canadian MX superstars Jean Sebastien Roy and Colton Facciotti. He also ran in some CCS regional road races and the opening round of the SunTrust MOTO-ST Series at Daytona International Speedway during Bike Week in early March. “I feel as much confidence as I ever have at the start of a season,” Lacombe said. “This is the best opportunity of my life to this point. Scott is one of the top guys in racing and he and his team have been together a long time. It’s going to be really good. “It’s going to be very competitive in the series this year but I know I’m as fast as the top guys. I know what I can do when I’m on a good bike.” Team Toyota Yamaha Fast Company will be looking to continue the momentum it enjoyed at the end of last season. Steve Crevier won the last three Superbike races of the year to place second in the standings, and was also a close second in the Pro 600 Sport Bike title chase. In recognition of its impressive efforts the squad received the Inside Motorcycles Team of the Year Award, the second time Miller has been recognized with the honour. “We struggled a little bit with the R1 at the start of last year,” Miller said. “But once we found the set-up we were all set. Steve did a great job of developing this bike and Kevin will benefit from that. “The R6 is new for this year but it’s not totally new. They’ve addressed some of the bike’s weak points, the torque and midrange are better. It already had a great chassis and they made changes that will make it even better. Team Toyota Yamaha Fast Company Racing will make its 2008 debut with Lacombe in the official Parts Canada Superbike Pirelli Tire Test at Florida’s JenningsGP circuit April 15-16. Team Toyota Yamaha Fast Company Crew Members Scott Miller – Team Manager/Crew Chief, Grant Schwartz Design & Fabrication, Derek Uttley – Superbike Technician, Dave Oakley, Jim Nelson – 600 Sport Bike Technicians, Sandra McGill Administration, Mike Rush Logistics, Michelle Rush – Hospitality.
