Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca may become WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca as early as April 1 if the Monterey County Board of Supervisors approves a new naming rights sponsorship deal for the motorsports venue. According to an article published March 8 on www.montereyherald.com, WeatherTech, an aftermarket automotive parts manufacturer that’s heavily invested in motorsports sponsorship, has offered to pay $5 million to have the naming rights to the track for five years, 2018-2021.

Mazda, which had been the naming rights sponsor of the track for the last 17 years, notified Monterey County in 2017 that it would not be renewing its deal, which expires on March 31, 2018. However, Mazda will continue to be a lower-level sponsor of the track, according to the article, which can be read here: http://www.montereyherald.com/sports/20180308/new-…
