Aaron Gobert to ride the competitive Honda CBR1000RR machine this weekend at Daytona (Daytona Beach, FL) In a remarkable achievement, Trifoglio Racing has assembled a competitive AMA Pro Road Racing American Superbike team in just five days and will race at the opening round of the series at Daytona International Speedway this weekend with former AMA Superstock Champion Aaron Gobert at the controls. With sponsorship being confirmed for the team just ten days prior to the first race, a difficult task lay ahead of Team Manager Dwayne McCracken. The ex-Corona Honda and World Superbike Crew Chief acquired a Honda CBR1000RR and a day later was building the motor with the help of Lee’s Cycle Service and accomplished racer/engine builder, Jeremy Toye. Toye turned around the motor in a day while Galfer Brakes set the chassis up with a complete braking system similar to what they are using on the Blusens Honda MotoGP2 development machine. Meanwhile Ohlins supplied the suspension for the machine and Vortex began to assemble rearsets, handlebars and sprockets for the open-class Honda. Bodywork was sourced and painted in a day. Back together in two days, the bike traveled to FMF for a new exhaust system and tuning from FMF’s Don Emler, George Luttig, Doug Muellner and Danny LaPorte. Final Lee’s Cycle dyno runs proved the bike to have competitive horsepower, and the Honda was loaded into the truck and sent to Daytona just five days after its delivery to the team. Trifoglio Racing’s Dwayne McCracken claims, “It was the busiest five days of our lives, but we produced a great bike for Daytona. The Superstock-like American Superbike rules helped us get this together quickly, but this would have been totally impossible without all the product, support and hours our sponsors put into this project.” Trifolgio racing will be competing in the entire 2009 American Superbike Championship with Aaron Gobert. The 2004 AMA Superstock Champion commented, “I’ve been riding 600s for the past few years, and although I won a lot of races, I really missed the 1000s. I’m really looking forward to riding this Honda because Dwayne was able to make the CBR1000RR a Superstock winner for Corona Honda in 2008. We’ll be doing a lot of testing and setup work at Daytona, but I’ll be on the podium a lot this year.” The Trifoglio Racing effort hits the track for the first time March 4 and will contest the American Superbike race at Daytona on Thursday afternoon, March 5.
