Four times 500cc World Champion Eddie Lawson was welcomed into the MotoGP Hall of Fame when he was nominated as a MotoGP legend on the eve of the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. Californian Lawson won three World titles in 1984/86/88 for Yamaha before switching to Honda to clinch the 1989 title. Lawson and Valentino Rossi are the only riders in the 55 year history of grand prix racing to win successive premier class titles on different machinery. After his induction ceremony, Lawson raced in the Superkart race at Laguna which he started from pole position and finished third.
