Gustavo Laya Jr. Signs With Team Moto Uno For AMA Supersport Venezuelan young gun Gustavo Laya Jr. has signed with Team Moto Uno to race in the 2007 AMA Supersport series, starting at Daytona in March. Laya will travel this Monday from Caracas, Venezuela to the United States and will test at Roebling Road Raceway near Savannah, Georgia before heading to Daytona. During the season Laya will be coached by his uncle, former 250cc World Champion Carlos Lavado. “We have a contract for the whole 2007 AMA season with Team Moto Uno,” said Laya. “We will compete in the Supersport class with a Kawasaki ZX-6R and we will use Pirelli tires. Under the terms of the contract we have to finish in the top 15 in each race. It will be hard, but it is a unique opportunity that I won’t waste. Next week we will start testing, and we will have exactly one month to get ready before the Supersport series starts in Daytona. We may also run the Daytona 200.” Team Moto Uno Racing will also field American Taylor Knapp, with machines prepared by Vic Fasola. In December, Laya and Knapp tested alongside other Pirelli-sponsored riders at Daytona, and rode on the latest Pirelli tires with new rubber compounds. The 2007 AMA Championship includes 12 rounds. Besides Laya, other Venezuelans expected to compete in the AMA Championship include Robertino Pietri and Fernando Amantini.
