Mark Ledesma wins Unlimited GP on day one of two during Roadrace Southwest CCS Twin Sprints weekend. Saturday morning greeted racers with a wet and drying track that had some scrambling for set-up as the sun came out. The racing was hot all day though and culminated with the premier class- Unlimited Grand Prix presented by Roadrace Southwest. There was cold hard cash on the line and the pressure was on as the green flag dropped. Mark Ledesma scored a hole shot and turned that into a 5 second lead by the fourth lap. “I turned around to see who was behind me thinking I had built a large gap on Mike Shreve only to see him still close enough so I had to turn it up a bit” said Mark. That clearly explained his 55.540-second time on lap number eight. After his gap was solidified Mark started to put on a clinic for “How to Have Fun with 190 Horsepower” as he slid into turns only to come out sideways on the rear wheel and the gas on his Michelin shod Honda! Finishing in an impressive second place was Mike Shreve who pushed his Dunlops on his Yamaha R6. One would never notice as his lap times were in the 56-second range until the end where fear of running out of fuel tempered his throttle hand. The battle for third raged between Davie Stone and Ray Thibedeau until Davie made a daring braking pass into turn one. Ray hung on as long as he could but his body, already on it’s eighth race of the day gave up before his Pirellis and forced him to retire early. Davie then slowed opting not to push his luck on worn Dunlops and save it for Sunday. Davie was also on his back up machine but promised to come back harder next time. Check www.roadracesw.com for full results of Saturday’s action and to see Sunday’s schedule! Day Two of Roadrace Southwest Twin Sprints has Ledesma on top in Unlimited GP Sunday brought about more entries for the Roadrace Southwest Unlimited Grand Prix but a couple of the same faces hit the podium again. Additions for Sunday included Joe Dawson and Tom Savoca along with Saturday’s participants Mark Ledesma, Mike Shreve, Ray Thibedeau and Davie Stone. Savoca, exhausted after riding the track day at Fontana the day prior in preparation for his first assault on the AMA grid, opted out of the race before it began even though his qualifying time on his new Suzuki liter bike would have made him quite competitive. With the other five riders starting the race, it was not long before machines succumbed to the quick pace. Ray Thibedeau was out first after a great start in third with unknown mechanical issues and Mike Shreve was taken out of second place on his R6 Yamaha due to a drive chain failure. The remaining riders then put on a show, or two shows, for the spectators and fans. Mark Ledesma did his run away and hide trick again but toned down the lurid slides and tire burning antics to save the Michelin rubber on his CBR1000RR and still came out with a convincing win. The “other” show was between Davie Stone and his Suzuki and the recently returning Joe Dawson. Joe had been on a self- imposed racing restriction after a rough previous year and while finishing his MBA. You would never notice that Joe had taken any time off as his tried and true racing skills and defensive maneuvers frustrated Stone. Stone, riding his back up machine, tried to pass just about everywhere he could and stayed within a tire of Joe for most of the race. A failing brake system held him back and a last turn attempt on the brakes did not work. Joe commented that he knew where Stone was going to pass and if the attempt was made, he would merely square off the turn and win the drag race to the finish with his superior horsepower. Ultimately it was a three tire podium with Dunlop shod Stone in third, Pirelli rider Joe Dawson in second and the Michelin man Mark Ledesma taking the win again. Roadrace Southwest will be returning to Firebird Raceway on May 12 and 13. For more information, results and lap times check www.roadracesw.com today! More, from a press release issued by MotoSix: MotoSix Wins at a Damp Miller Motorsports Park Aaron Clark of MotoSix MotorSports and Moto-Garage.com won every race he entered at a damp Miller Motorsports Park event this past weekend. Although rain threatened for entire weekend, Clarkie was able to lead every lap in only slightly damp conditions to bring home the win in Open Superbike. For the premier class called “King of the Mountain”, mother nature tested all racer”s setup skills in attendance with a wetter track. Even with the questionable conditions, Clarkie jumped out to an early lead and once again led every lap of the race. “These in-between conditions make it tough on everyone, but my Pirelli DOTs let me run a good pace at the front. Running the full track configuration meant we both fast and tight technical sections, and it was a real test of my setup skills. Also, everyone really stepped it up this weekend and gave me a good run and if it wasn”t for the range of adjustability on my GP Suspension components things may have turned out very differently!” commented Aaron Clark of MotoSix Motorsports and MotoGarage.com MotoSix riders Aaron Clark and Dave Gallant will compete next at the opening round of the MRA Series, April 28th & 29th, at Pueblo Motorsports Park in Pueblo Colorado.
