Roadracingworld.com Suzuki rider Santiago Villa will not race the final round of the AMA Pro Road Racing series September 4-6 at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Villa crashed at VIRginia International Raceway during qualifying for the AMA Pro SunTrust Moto-GT team race. He suffered fractures to the tibia and fibula and had to undergo surgery in his home country, Colombia. Villa was told it would be very dangerous to race at New Jersey because the fractures were very delicate and that even a small accident could cause permanent damage and he could lose movement of his foot. “My God, this is very bad news for me,” said Villa. “I really wanted to race at New Jersey. During these past months I have been making better times and have seen a great progress. My GSX-R600 is great, my crew has worked very hard to teach me a lot of stuff but now I have to sit the last race. “I just want to thank my team, my incredible crew James Lickwar and Peter Hively for their patience and help. Also a big thank you to John and Chris Ulrich. It’s been a great year, and it has been an amazing experience and a privilege to work with them. The team is like a great family, and I have also learned a lot from my friends Martin Cardenas and Jason DiSalvo. “I will be back for the race at Daytona in October, and I just hope that we can continue to get better and better each time we are on the bike. “Also, I hope we can win the AMA Daytona SportBike Championship at New Jersey with Martin. It would be great for the team. Martin is one of my best friends. I admire the guy a lot and I owe him a lot for all his help these last few years. But it’s hard to cheer only for him. You can’t close your eyes to the fact that Danny Eslick is a great guy and a magnificent rider, too. I got to know him better this year, and I know he has a lot of will and talent. We are going to see a real battle because knowing Martin like I do, I am sure he is going for the Championship but Danny is also a warrior. It’s a shame that I can’t be there cheering for my team and witnessing the show in person.”
