Larry H. Miller Group of Companies to Celebrate 30th Anniversary Three 30-year employees will receive special recognition. SALT LAKE CITY (May 14, 2009) The Larry H. Miller Group of Companies will celebrate its 30th Anniversary on Saturday, May 16, 2009 at Miller Motorsports Park (MMP) in Tooele, Utah. More than 4,000 employees will participate in the celebration. Media is invited to cover the event. “Celebrating the 30th anniversary of this company is important to our family,” said CEO Greg Miller. “My father always emphasized the importance of history and recognizing milestones as well as the value of our employees. He never took for granted the success achieved and growth of our properties and the role that employees played in both. “The Miller Motorsports Park was one of his most remarkable achievements and he would be pleased to know that more than 4,000 employees and their families are taking part in this celebration during the Utah Grand Prix this weekend.” Three employees who have been with the company since its inception will receive a handmade customized award created by renowned sculptor Brian Challace and then take a celebratory lap around the MMP track in special-series Mustang cars. All employees and their guests will receive a commemorative anniversary pin as well as a barbecue luncheon and free admission to the track for the Larry H. Miller Dealerships’ Utah Grand Prix (American Le Mans Series) on Saturday. The company that began in 1979 as a single Toyota dealership has grown into one of the 200 largest privately owned business groups in the United States. From the nucleus of a single location with fewer than 30 employees, the LHM Group of Companies has become a collection of businesses ranging from automobile dealerships to racetracks. In 30 years, the organization has grown to more than 7,000 employees in nine states. The Larry H. Miller Group of Companies now operates 22 different automobile brands under 39 dealership locations in six western states. Specializing in the sale of new and used automobiles, each dealership also offers financing and insurance products to customers through the Miller-owned Prestige Financial Services and the Landcar companies. Dealerships are supplied with printing and chemicals through Performance Automotive, and Saxton-Horne handles advertising and media services for all Miller properties. The group entered the sports industry with the acquisition of the Utah Jazz in 1985-86. Larry Miller believed that if he did not purchase the team on behalf of the community, it would be sold to out-of-town investors, moved to another state, and Utah would not regain the rights to an NBA team in the future due to its small market size. Miller’s unwavering personal commitment to professional sports in Utah led to the development of eight additional properties in the Sports & Entertainment division. The most visible contribution to downtown Salt Lake City is EnergySolutions Arena. The building is one of the few arenas in the country designed principally for basketball. In March of 2003, the Zions Bank Basketball Center was opened and is one of the premier basketball training and practice facilities in the country. Miller’s dedication to sports also led him to purchase the Salt Lake Stingers in February 2005. He decided to bring classic baseball back to Salt Lake City by renaming and rebranding the team the Salt Lake Bees. The Bees are the AAA affiliate of major league baseball’s Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Fanzz retail apparel stores are located in seven states and offer merchandise from the NCAA, NBA, NFL, and MLB. In 1993, the company purchased independent television station KJZZ and more recently took over the operation of 1320 KFAN Radio and ESPN Radio in Salt Lake. In 1999, Miller entered into the movie theatre and restaurant business by developing the Jordan Commons complex in Sandy with a 10-story office tower, The Mayan and Megaplex 17. All-Star Catering provides food and beverage services for all Miller properties as well as outside venues and companies. In 2005, Miller broke ground on his most ambitious project, the Miller Motorsports Park, a 500-acre, state-of-the-art road racing facility for automobiles, motorcycles and karts in Tooele, Utah. A dynamic entrepreneur and business leader, Miller also became known for his charitable efforts. Miller coined the phrase “Go about doing good until there is too much good in the world.” In 1995, Larry and Gail Miller established Larry H. Miller Charities, a non-profit foundation to operate as the charitable division of the companies. Funds available for donation come from Miller businesses, employees and fundraisers in the community. In addition the Miller family provides close to 300 college scholarships each year. – The exact anniversary date of the company was May 1, 2009. – For more information on the Larry H.
