From a press release:

The Longevity Racing Team of John and Barrett Long (father and son) will compete against each other in the 2004 AHRMA Daytona 250cc races.

John Long, who had his first 250cc win at Daytona in the 1972 Novice race, also tied for the AMA 250cc Championship with Randy Mamola in 1978 and Reg Pridmore for the Superbike Championship that same year. Long is listed eleventh on the list of people with the most miles in the Daytona 200 – racing there since 1974.

Nineteen year old, Barrett Long, competed in the 2003 AMA 250cc championship, with top ten finishes at five events. He won the Daytona 250cc CCS Race of Champions in October. Barrett’s 2004 race plan is still open. He is looking for a great 600 Super Sport, FX or Boxer Cup ride.

John Long will also bring his Dad’s 1949 BSA Gold Star back to Daytona to the AHRMA’s Tribute to BSA Celebration. John Long, Sr. raced the BSA on the beach of Daytona from 1949 to 1953. Long is trying to get former 1950’s racer, Pete Knight to ride the Gold Star in a parade lap on Tuesday. Pete Knight rode for the late John Long on the Goldstar and also for Francis Beart on the factory Norton at Daytona in 1951. Pete is currently fighting a battle with cancer in Gainesville, Florida.
