Huntington Beach, CA – Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputies (L.A.S.D.) Motorsports Motorcycle Racing, Inc.™, the largest law enforcement motorcycle racing outreach program in the United States is proud to announce the unveiling of our newest outreach program. Rewarding Achievement in Classroom Education (R.A.C.E.) Program™. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputies Motorsports Motorcycle Racing™ Team in cooperation with professional educators, school administrators and our loyal sponsors has developed an innovative program to enhance children’s learning opportunities through recognition and reward. It has long been known that children learn best with incentives to achieve. The L.A.S.D. Motorsports Motorcycle Racing™ teams R.A.C.E.™ program does just that, rewards those students who achieve in classroom education. The R.A.C.E.™ Program is designed to improve students skills in two core areas, reading and citizenship. The program also contains a component to reach those “at-risk” young people who may have already had interaction with law enforcement. Here’s how it works. The L.A.S.D. Motorsports Motorcycle Racing™ Team is comprised of Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputies who donate their off-duty time to administer the R.A.C.E.™ Program. These deputies teach the importance of reading and citizenship from a curriculum developed by professional educators. Here’s the catch. These deputies use their road and dirt race motorcycles to gain interest of the young people. This allows an informal interaction with law enforcement, cementing positive relationships with deputies in a setting outside the patrol car. Each semester, students in all grade levels are challenged by the “RACEing into Reading™” curriculum administered by the deputies. At the end of each semester the top three Reading Racers are awarded prizes from the L.A.S.D. Motorsports Motorcycle Racing™ team sponsors like Best Buy, McDonald’s, Oakley, Dainese, Simpson, and BooKoo Energy. Prizes like MP3 players, DVD’s, Playstation Players, handheld games, safety helments, apparel, gift certificates and so much more. In conjunction with the “RACEing into Reading™” curriculum, students in Middle and High School are provided with materials detailing the criteria of the L.A.S.D. Motorsports Motorcycle Racing™ Student/Citizen of the Semester Program. This program evaluates students overall involvement in their schools academic, extracurricular and community programs. Students are nominated by their teachers and selected by a committee consisting of school administrators and L.A.S.D. Motorsports Motorcycle Racing™ team members. The top three Student/Citizens of the Semester are chosen for each grade level and receive special recognition along with prizes for their achievement. Incentives are powerful tools to encourage learning. Not only does this program provide incentives for young people to set goals and strive to achieve them; it also allows young people to interact with law enforcement in a positive way. This positive interaction leads to enduring memories and positive relationships in the future. The program stresses the importance of reading throughout life for intellectual nourishment, the importance of citizenship, and the importance of helping yourself while helping others. The by product of these programs are well rounded self-confident young people with a thirst for learning. The R.A.C.E. Program is being rolled out currently at several schools in Los Angeles County for this academic year. The entire team would like to thank those educators, administrators and our sponsors for their year of dedicated work in developing the curriculum and incentives that make this program unique and effective. Los Angeles Sheriff’s Deputies (L.A.S.D.) Motorsports Motorcycle Racing is organized as a California non-profit charitable organization and is registered with the Attorney General. All of our outreach programs are funded solely by our sponsors and donors, NO TAXPAYER FUNDS ARE USED TO SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM.
