Josh DAY, USA (Kawasaki ZX-6R), 1:42.213 More, from a press release issued by Bogdanka PTR Honda: BOGDANKA PTR HONDA’s Sam Lowes got off to a flying start at the sixth round of the World Supersport Championship at Misano in San Marino by taking the provisional pole position in the first qualifying session on Friday. Mathew Scholtz was on a learning curve today, focusing on getting to know another new circuit onboard his Bogdanka PTR Honda and ending the opening day in 18th position. The South African targets more improvements as the weekend goes on and will be looking for a solid point scoring finish on Sunday. Bogdanka Honda PTR’s Pawel Szkopek was due to return to action after his leg injury from Imola, but has been declared unfit to ride with his younger brother, Marek, standing in this weekend and finishing the opening day in 27th. Following Saturday’s second qualifying, Sunday’s race will start at 13:30 CET. Sam Lowes: “After the first place at Donington it was good to be fastest today too and I’m looking forward to tomorrow. We’re in good spirits and everything is working well. There was a little bit of rain before the second session so I took it a bit steady at the start but it was a really good qualifying with very consistent lap times. We’ve got a couple of things we want to work on but we’ve got a really good direction after making a good step after this morning, so we’re confident.” Mathew Scholtz: “This is my first time here and today we were just learning the track and working on finding the setup for the second qualifying and the race itself. We weren’t too fast but we’re still happy because we’ve been improving with every lap. I like Misano. Some corners are really tight but some are very fast so it has a bit of everything and is a really cool track. I’m really looking forward to the rest of the weekend.” Marek Szkopek: “I’m very positive after the first day on the Bogdanka Honda PTR, which is a very fast bike and easily capable of a strong result on Sunday. It was short notice for me to get ready to ride but we’ve done our homework with the team and I’m feeling very comfortable on the bike after we made some adjustments this morning. I’m confident we can get down to 1’41’s tomorrow but we can’t get too carried away and need to make one step at a time.” Simon Buckmaster, Bogdanka PTR Honda Team Manager: “Sam has started Misano where he left off at Donington and is in incredible form. He is riding well, relaxed and focussed – and there is more to come. Mathew is level headed and building his effort at another new track for him. Already he is showing points potential for Sunday and that is his aim – a safe points scoring finish.” More, from a press release issued by PTR Honda: JULES CLUZEL is fourth and Ronan Quarmby eighth on the provisional grid for Sunday’s sixth round of the World Supersport Championship at Misano in Italy for PTR Honda. Riders PTR Honda’s Martin Jessopp is 26th while nursing a broken collarbone and completing only a handful of laps. Bogdanka PTR Honda’s Sam Lowes is on provisional pole position on his sister PTR prepared Honda CBR600RR. There is another practice followed by qualifying session tomorrow before the race at 1330CET on Sunday 10th June. Jules: “I am happy. Today was good because every time I went out of the garage I improved. My feeling with my PTR Honda was really good and stayed that way even when we changed tyre. At the end of qualifying I had a gap with 10-minutes to go and decided to run my used tyre for a race distance simulation. That was not a good choice as I ended up fourth and I should have had a new tyre and gone faster. It’s OK though, I have more tyres left for the rest of the weekend.” Ronan: “That was an awesome qualifying session. Misano is a difficult track for me so I am very happy with eighth place today. We have made good improvements to my PTR Honda and I am sure we can maintain or improve as the weekend progresses. I am feeling very good and looking forward to getting on the bike again.” Martin: “My shoulder is as sore as expected and I am struggling a little bit. I was not willing to push it too much today and only completed four laps. When the time comes I will go for it and put the laps in tomorrow afternoon. I’ve been to the Clinica and they set me up and I am feeling better. I’ll take it session by session.” Simon Buckmaster, PTR Honda Team Manager: “Jules is in great shape and riding very well. He stayed on a used tyre at the end of qualifying and that cost him time otherwise he would have been challenging Sam for pole position. He feels good and is enjoying himself this weekend. Ronan is also enjoying himself and it shows because eighth at what he admits is a tough track for him is superb. Martin is doing well given his injury – he knew this weekend would be tough and it is a case of getting through it and doing the best he can.”
