CVMA Series Desert Center, CA April 16-17 Karl Lowry took his second win in the CVMA Unlimited Shootout, and Ryan Matter dominated in the 600cc classes during the second round of the Chuckwalla Valley Motorcycle Association’s 2011 season. In blistering heat, Lowry handily took his Graves Motorsports-backed, Dunlop-shod Yamaha YZF-R1 to the win in the featured event. Lowry also rode his Yamaha YZF-R6 to a second in Sunday’s Formula Middleweight race, in spite of a crash on Saturday that put his middleweight bike out of commission for the rest of the day. Young Gun Ryan Matter was on fire, starting the weekend by taking second in the Supersport Middleweight contest on his Pirelli-shod Suzuki GSX-R600, then winning the Formula Middleweight contest and the Team Challenge Middleweight endurance race (along with fellow youngsters Ryan Tarr and Lex Hartl) on Saturday. Matter kept up the torrid pace on Sunday, taking the win in the Supersport and Formula Middleweight races, as well as the Middleweight Shootout. Although it was the first round for the series that ran the track counter-clockwise (backwards), racers quickly got down to impressive lap times. Four racers Tyler Odom, Matter, Lowry and Benny Solis Jr. were in the 1:49 range in qualifying. Unfortunately, crashes by Odom and Solis put an end to their racing for the weekend but not before Odom took the win in Saturday’s Supersport Middleweight contest. The USGPRU held its West Coast Region season opener in conjunction with the CVMA event, and Tyler Linders stole the show, taking the wins in the 250cc GP race and the Moriwaki MD250H race and finishing second in the Moto 3 contest, which was won by Andre Ochs.
