For reaction to the announced and published AMA Superbike Series 2009 rules and class structure we contacted, or attempted to contact, representatives from each of the major motorcycle manufacturers currently involved in AMA National road racing in America. To get the position of American Honda, we attempted to contact Senior Vice-President Ray Blank, who served on the AMA Board of Directors and AMA Pro Racing Board of Directors for many years up until 2006 and had been directly involved in the rules making process under the previous AMA Pro Racing regime; Blank and Honda were represented by Honda employee Chuck Miller on the AMA committee that produced the 2009 rules that will now be used for the premier class by DMG-controlled AMA Pro Racing. In spite of doing multiple interviews with several different publications over the last four months, Blank declined our July 24 request for an interview, according to American Honda spokesman Jon Seidel. When asked for comment July 20 at Laguna Seca, American Honda Racing Manager Jon Row said the announced 2009 rules and class structure looked “encouraging” but that the company needed to look at them more in depth before it could make any plans for 2009.
