MARRC Announces Officer Election Results, Rider And Volunteer Awards

The Mid-Atlantic RoadRacing Club (MARRC) Annual Meeting and Awards Banquet was held in McLean, VA on Saturday, January 30, 2010. MARRC is a non-profit all volunteer organization comprised of racers, cornerworkers and volunteers for various committees. These volunteers work hard throughout the year to support CCS and WERA events at Summit Point Raceway in West Virginia and to uphold the motto of the club: “Dedicated to the Advancement of Motorcycle Roadracing”. The annual meeting and awards banquet is held in the off season to induct new members to the MARRC Executive Committee (EC), thank outgoing members of the EC, elect officers for the EC and to recognize the hard work and dedication of all MARRC volunteers. The EC is a board of officers who run the club. The following people were elected into their respective positions on the EC: President Craig “Guzz” Lee Vice President Rick Beggs Secretary David Hockenberry Treasurer Chris Astle MARRC rewards volunteers who have worked with the club for several years and have put in over 300 days worth of work for the club with a Lifetime Membership Award. The following people received Lifetime Memberships this year: Rick Beggs Wendy (Leland) Sauvageot William Powers Steve Harris Each year MARRC members vote on several racer and cornerworker awards that are presented at the banquet. Below is an explanation of the voted awards and the recipients for the 2009 season: VOLUNTEER AWARDS The MARRC Cup Chris Astle The MARRC volunteer who goes above and beyond the call of duty in fulfilling the club’s motto: “Dedicated to the Advancement of Motorcycle Roadracing.” Cornerworker of the Year Sara Astle The hardest working, most dedicated Cornerworker in 2009. Roadracing School Volunteer of the Year Steve Harris The hardest working, most dedicated Roadracing School volunteer in 2009. President’s Award – Simon Whalley and Sara Astle This award is decided on by the current club President RACER AWARDS Expert Racer of the Year Arnold Hastings Amateur Racer of the Year Jonathan Elias Hard Luck Award Bobby Kim The person for whom things just never went right this season. Crash and Burn Award Rachel Sasse The most spectacular or memorable crash of the season. Congratulations to all EC officers and award winners!!!! Here’s to a great 2010 season and great new things to come for the MARRC organization!!
