Mavros Motorsports Wins 200 Mile Race at Road America
Elkhart Lake, WI – The AMA sanctioned ASRA Team Challenge Series presented by Michelin Tire kicked off a huge weekend of motorcycle racing at Road America for the 4th of July weekend. With 29 teams entered, the competition looked to be fierce in every class and when the final flag flew, no one was disappointed.
From the start of the event the Froggymoto.com BMW 1000 (Cory West, Michael O’Malley) jumped out front and tried to gap the field knowing they were a relatively new endurance team working to overcome the years of experience of the regular Team Challenge contenders. For the first 17 laps the plan worked perfectly and while they pitted for fuel and a rider change the Mavros Motorsports Kawasaki ZX-10R (Jason Farrell) took the lead and never looked back. Even with a quick pit stop on lap 19, the Mavros team held the official lead until the end of the race. The competition for the rest of the Overall Podium was fierce, as FroggyMoto.com had to chase down the LB Sports Suzuki GSX-R1000 (Lloyd Bayley) to move into second with 2 laps to go, leaving LB sports in the third position at the end. The top 3 overall were also your top three in the GTO class, giving Mavros Motorsports the lead in both championships after 4 rounds.
It was a great afternoon for the Double B Racing Team as Jody Barry rode the entire event solo putting his Yamaha YZF-R6 on top of the podium for the GTU class followed by Martinez Motorsports (Calvin Martinez, Kaleb De Keyrel) on a Kawasaki ZX-6R. Third place went to ScmotSee Racing (Drew See, Jake Schmotter) on another Yamaha R6. A 4th place finish by Jinba Ittai (Joel Lenk, Matt Brown) leaves them a 62 point lead in the GTU Championship with just 4 rounds remaining in the 2016 ASRA Team Challenge Series.
The Coming In Hot Team (Jared Herbig, David Shea) won the GTL class with MNSBR.com (Jonathan Champ, Steven Johnson) in second and MPR Racing (Brad Perdiew) in third. The win gives Coming In Hot a 4 point lead in the 2016 GTL Championship.
