Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca Likes Speed “¦ And It Shows Specialized Signs Show Racing Speed MONTEREY, Calif. (November 4, 2011) Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is iconic. Motorsports fans the world over know of the infamous Corkscrew and renown racers (on four wheels or two) experience firsthand the speeds that can be reached when expertly maneuvering the technical track. Now race fans also can get an inside track on just how fast these competitors are zooming along as they fight for track position. In an ongoing effort to improve the fan experience, Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) and Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca turned to Apex Signs & Graphics, a Salinas, Calif. neighbor, to create four 10-foot-wide radar speed displays for the pedestrian crossover bridges at the race track. The displays, approximately three feet tall, are the perfect fit to not distract from the high revving battle occurring on the track yet also allow spectators to see the clocked speeds from multiple vantage points around the raceway. The speed displays also benefit racing participants and teams in improving race strategy and communications. “The addition of the speed signs further accents to the race day drama for motorsports fans,” said Jay Amestoy, vice president, Public Affairs and Motorsports, MNAO. “In the past, fans sitting in the stands could only speculate the speeds racers were reaching along the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca course. Seeing the actual speeds along with hearing the sound of the engines, smelling the rubber grip the asphalt and feeling the energy that is standard for any motorsports event combines for an all-around race-day experience for any race fan.” The signs debuted to overwhelmingly favorable reviews at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion in August, and are believed to be the first race track installation at North America. “We leaped at the opportunity to work with Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca on this project,” said Nigel Hearne, president, Apex Signs & Graphics. “Race fans ourselves, we enjoyed being part of this groundbreaking program.” To learn more about Apex Signs & Graphics, their products and services, contact (831) 757-7377 or visit www.apexsigns.net.
