MISSISSAUGA, Ont. Matt McBride will join the Parts Canada Superbike Championship this weekend at Mosport International Raceway, riding a BMW S1000RR with primary backing from Oakville, Ont. based Budds’ BMW Motorrad and Riders Choice of Mississauga, Ont. “I’m looking forward to getting back into action, especially at Mosport, which has always been one of my favorite tracks,” said McBride. “The new BMW has looked very impressive in the opening rounds of the national series and I think it will excel at Mosport.” The 25-year-old McBride has been a frontrunner on the national road racing tour ever since making his Pro debut in 2002, when he placed third in the HJC Pro Rookie of the Year standings. Last year he finished eighth in the Parts Canada Superbike rankings despite running a limited schedule on his Riders Choice-backed Suzuki GSX-R1000. That equaled his career high finish in the year end point standings. The Mississauga, Ont. racer has also traditionally excelled around Mosport’s 3.9km (2.459-mile) road course. Last year he scored fourth and sixth place finishes in the doubleheader event and in 2008 he qualified his Suzuki third for the Superbike races. The track was also the scene of one of his proudest moments in racing, when he finished third in the Pro Sport Bike race in 2005, his first national event podium. “We’re very pleased to support Matt in this venture and have high hopes for his success,” said Todd Humber, Motorrad Operations Manager at Budds’ BMW. “He has been one of Canada’s most exciting racers for a number of years and we think the BMW S1000RR will be the perfect vehicle for him to achieve some exceptional results.” The success of the new German Superbike has been the story of the 2010 Parts Canada Superbike Championship season. Two weeks ago at Calgary’s Race City Motorsport Park Francis Martin notched a pair of podium finishes on the S1000RR to lift himself into second in the Superbike point standings heading to Mosport this weekend. “We’re very pleased to see a dealer like Budds’ BMW Motorrad step up and support a racing program like this,” added John McBride of Riders’ Choice. “It shows a keen eye to the future and we think this effort will pay dividends for everybody involved.” The S1000RR is being prepared by Ryan Gill of Riders Choice. Matt McBride’s race program is supported by BMW Motorrad Canada, Riders Choice, Budds’ BMW, Armour Bodies, Peter Sereda-Laurel Consulting, Mark Westlock-Springdale Property Services Ltd., Bill Truhlar-Bill’s Lock Service, Bob Shaw-Peter Hodge Transport, Peter McKenna-Colliers International, Dave Buckland, Todd Ruston-PUG, Chris Tuttelberg, Peter Markewycz-Masonry Medics, George Stromboulopoulos-The Hour, Desmond Lee, Drew Armstrong-Express Test Emissions, Herman Cornelsen-Full Bore, Dainese, Arai, Albion Golf Carts, Tirox, Motul and Kreator Motorcycles. Matt would also like to thank the friends and companies that have supported his racing efforts throughout his career.
