London-based Warr’s Harley-Davidson is set to build on its early championship lead in the all-new one-make Henderson Harley-Davidson XR1200 Trophy race series, which runs within the 2010 British Superbike Championship. Former MotoGP star Jeremy McWilliams, who is contesting the championship for the dealership, has completed further testing in advance of this weekend’s XR1200 race at the famous Mallory Park circuit in Leicestershire on 26 and 27 June. The Warr’s Racing rider has impressed with his fast pace and consistent lap times while undertaking further machine refinements. McWilliams, who is renowned for his machine set-up experience, has brought extensive skills to the already highly regarded Warr’s Racing team run by Martin Szlagowski. At the opening round at Oulton Park, McWilliams was first past the chequered flag to claim 25 points, a race win bonus and an early championship lead in the seven-race battle that also visits Mallory Park, Knockhill, Brands Hatch and Cadwell Park this year. All riders are on the same production-based machinery with a road-going XR1200 as the foundation. A race upgrade kit has been produced in conjunction with championship partners Harris Performance and all bikes use the same specification Dunlop D211GP tyres to ensure that racing remains close and action-packed. A limited run of Warr’s Harley-Davidson/Jeremy McWilliams XR1200 road going replicas are available to buy from Warr’s dealerships priced at £9,995. More, from a press release issued by Mallory Park: Tommy Hill previews Mallory Park BSB this weekend THE Worx Crescent Suzuki team head to Mallory Park this weekend for the fifth round of the 2010 British Superbike Championship. While Tommy Hill will continue to defend his championship lead, the round will also see the return of Yukio Kagayama, now recovered from the spinal injuries he sustained in a dramatic crash at Oulton Park. While Tommy Hill has set the pace this year he’s now defending a 36-point lead the team have been busy during the five-week break since Cadwell Park working hard on machine set-up, looking to give the GSX-R1000 even greater prowess on track. Tommy Hill: “We tested at Mallory Park two weeks back. We have a really strong base set-up but we wanted to try some very different settings just to see if there isn’t anything else to come the kind of work you really can’t do in a race weekend. We’ve tried different geometries, different links to the rear suspension and different suspension settings themselves. We were looking to see if we could get more side grip for cornering and improve the bike’s flickability. Make a more aggressive bike that will be stronger in passing situations. We’re happy with what we developed. “For me, five weeks between rounds has felt too long. I know some of the guys have filled in with rides at the TT and riding the Superstock event at the MotoGP at Silverstone. But the break has given us the time to work through stuff we could never do during racing. At this stage in the championship we’re there to be caught. I’ve been speaking to other riders who have been in this situation in their championships, so I’m mindful of not putting too much pressure on myself. In fact I feel very strong and for me I’m there to get the wins and the podium points.” Yukio Kagayama returns to the championship after missing the last round due to fracturing two vertebrae in a first race crash at Oulton Park (round three). In the break he returned to Japan and after a further scan surgeons there report that his fractures have stabilised and healed well. Kagayama was then able to make some preparatory laps back on the bike at the team’s Mallory Park test. Yukio Kagayama: “I’m feeling very fit and well and my doctors have cleared me to race again. I rode some steady laps at Mallory Park to relearn the circuit now that there’s a chicane at the end of Gerrards. I wasn’t pushing for lap speed, just getting familiar again with the bike and the circuit. “For me know I have a big task of repairing my championship. I need to make some good races to score big points. There’s a chance I can still make the top six for the end of year shootout and that has to be my goal.” Jack Valentine, team manager: “We’re feeling very positive after our tests and are looking forward to getting back to racing at Mallory Park. Tommy set the fastest time of all the BSB riders at that test and was very close to the pole time from last year despite the conditions not being ideal. He made a good job of the event last year in his debut for the team, topping nearly all the practice and qualifying sessions, being pipped for pole in the last seconds. And then he was unfortunately wiped out of the first race through no fault of his own, and torrential rain saw to the second race. So we feel we have the bike and the rider to challenge for podiums and hopefully wins again this weekend. “For Yukio it’s comeback time. He needs to ride as he did at Thruxton get the starts, stay out of trouble and ride the bike the way he always does. Mathematically he can still make the top-six, even from this point in the season with four rounds before the Showdown begins, so that will be his focus. “We’re a team that has proven we can win and we are winning. In that sense any pressure we feel is only of the positive kind, it’s coming from ourselves and it’s our motivation to stay on top.” . More, from a press release issued by Mallory Park: England’s World Cup challenge on the big screen at Mallory BSB FOLLOWING England’s qualification to the knock-out stages of the 2010 football World Cup, Mallory Park has confirmed that visitors to the fifth round of the MCE British Superbike Championship on Sunday 27th June will not miss a single kick thanks to the next game being shown live on the STIHL big screen. On race day the sudden-death match will be shown live on the STIHL big screen, located on top of main spectator bank on start/finish straight, so you won’t miss any of the action on track or on the pitch so you can get behind the team in their bid for World Cup glory. Mallory Park General Manager John Ward said: “It’s great news that England is through to the last 16 in the World Cup and visitors to the MCE British Superbike Championship will be able to watch all the action in the team’s knockout match on Sunday thanks to the STIHL big screen. “I can’t think of a better day out the best Superbike racing in the country and watching the World Cup on a big screen, it’s a near perfect day.”
