MPH Racing’s Melissa Paris to Sit Out Next AMA Daytona SportBike Round After suffering injuries to her pinky in the final laps of the Daytona 200, Melissa Paris will sit out the next round of the AMA SportBike Championship at Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, CA. In the days following her crash, Dr. Phillip Blevins assessed the injuries to her finger and determined that in order to get her back on her RM Racing Yamaha R6 as quickly as possible, surgery was the best course of action. The recovery is expected to be speedy, however Dr. Blevins felt that giving her injuries at least one round to heal will be in her best interest. “I knew I’d be in good hands with Dr. Blevins,” said Paris, “He’s worked on Josh’s hands a few times and he understands that I want to get back to racing as soon as I can. The original plan was to put a pin in my little finger, but when he got in there it was a little more broken up than he anticipated so there really wasn’t much to pin. He did a skin graft and sewed it up the best he could. It’s feeling pretty good at this point and I’m looking forward to getting home and back to training on my bicycle so I can be ready for Road Atlanta. I really want to thank everyone for all the calls and emails, all the support of my friends and sponsors is so cool.” Melissa may be down, but she is hardly out. Despite being forced to sit on the sidelines for Fontana, Melissa and her crew remain confident that she will be a strong contender in the rest of the AMA SportBike series and are still encouraged by her strong performance at the Daytona 200.
