CCS Mid-Atlantic/Florida
Roebling Road Raceway, Bloomingdale, GA
August 28, 2016
Greg Melka was the winningest racer of the weekend at Roebling Road Raceway during the Championship Cup Series Southeast/Florida regional event, taking home six first place trophies and running undefeated. Stefano Mesa also ran undefeated, with four victories, including the event grand finale, Unlimited Grand Prix.
Mesa won the Expert Unlimited Grand Prix on his Westside Performance/TTR Kawasaki ZX-10R after nailing the holeshot and leading the entire race. He was out front from the start with Tyler Smathers and Sean Dwyer in hot pursuit in a three rider battle for the lead. Smathers pulled into the pits halfway through the race, leaving Mesa and Dwyer as the sole two front runners for the remainder of the race. Mesa took the checkered flag after finishing all eight laps out front. Dwyer, Anthony Giangrasso, Bart Rogowski, and Brett Molnar rounded off the top five.
Behind them, JM Padron led the charge in the amateur class on his JM Honda Miami Honda CBR 1000RR, to take his fifth and final victory of the day, also running undefeated. Padron also won the Amateur GTO, Unlimited Supersport, Rookies Cup GTO, and Unlimited Superbike classes.
Smathers led the first several laps of the Expert GTO race on his Superbike Unlimited Yamaha YZF-R1. Mesa was able to use lap traffic to his advantage to take over the lead after six laps and the two continued to lead the pack in a fight to the finish. Mesa maintained his advantage to take his first win of the day. Smathers took a close second with Giangrasso finishing third.
Mesa was out front again in the Unlimited Supersport and Unlimited Superbike races, taking his second and third victories of the day.
“My weekend at Roebling was pretty good,” said Mesa. “It started with practice and I was feeling good on the bike. The bike really felt good and the lap times were good. We did a couple of changes to her and it was even better from there! When the races came around, there were a couple of us that were pretty fast, so I knew I was gonna have some fun battles. All the races were a blast! And, way too close. The three of us were on top of each other every other lap. Lap times were pretty good, too. I was able to put myself up front in all four races. My R6 was working great, but we had a mechanical on practice day and we couldn’t race it. It was a good weekend with a lot of learning and testing on the Dunlops. I can’t wait for the next round!”
Mesa is the current Overall points leader in the CCS Florida region. He is sponsored by Westside Performance, Thermosman, Dunlop, Shoei, Sidi, Graves Motorsports and TTR.
Greg Melka was also out front early in all of his classes on his team of Michelin shod, ProFlow Yamaha YZF-R6’s. He won the GTU, Middleweight Supersport, Heavyweight Supersport, Middleweight Superbike, Heavyweight Superbike, and Middleweight Grand Prix classes.
Melka is currently leading Overall points in three regions: Atlantic, Mid-Atlantic, and Southeast. He is sponsored by Michelin, ProFlow, Arai Helmets, EBC Brakes, and JRI Suspension.
The CCS Atlantic and Mid-Atlantic regions will compete next at Virginia International Raceway September 17-18th. The weekend will also include the ASRA Team Challenge and USGPRU sprint races. The Florida region will meet next at Homestead-Miami Speedway to compete on October 1-2nd.
