ROME, Ga. (USA) – METZELER announced today that they have renewed their partnership to remain the official tire of the 2016 AMA Supermoto Championship, which is set to kick off Saturday, April 9 in Bakersfield, California. As one of the most challenging forms of racing, the cross-discipline event consists of pavement and dirt, making tire selection crucial as riders battle bar-to-bar. The German tire manufacturer has captured the past two consecutive Pro Open championships, which were won by Gage McAllister in 2014-15. McAllister will attempt to add a third straight Pro Open title to his already impressive resume when he takes the line aboard his METZELER-equipped RSR Sponsored KTM450 at Kern County Raceway Park.

“AMA Supermoto is thrilled to extend our partnership with METZELER tires for the 2016 season,” said Matt Stewart, AMA Supermoto Chief of Operations. “Each year the riders and their machines continue to progress, ultimately making the technology that METZELER possesses a key element in helping elevate the sport of supermoto to the next level.”

METZELER’s Racetec™ SM tire lineup offers a wide range selection that is designed to meet the riders’ expectations in all weather conditions while on the racetrack. On the front, K1 and K2 slicks are now available in a 125/75R/17 and have been designed with a new lower profile that enhances agility and confidence when cornering or in quick changes of direction. The new sizes share the same compounds as the updated 16.5” option, which increase grip and versatility. A rain option is also available for when conditions are wet.

For the rear, the profile, structure, and compounds will remain the same after undergoing changes in 2015, but changes have been made to the central “ladder” grooves. There will be three different options, K0, K1, and K2 available in 165/55R/17, including a fourth rain option that is designed for wet conditions. METZELER engineers used development from the Racetec™ RR to improve traction in the dirt sections of the track and still retain optimal wear. The central and shoulder notches feature a unique design that allows the tire to clean itself out, ultimately helping riders when navigating dirt sections.

The continued presence of METZELER in AMA Supermoto once again shows the brand’s commitment to motorsports and ability to match its industry-leading technology with the best athletes in the world.
