Yates and May Eager to Compete in AMA Superbike Race Aurora, IL (July 15, 2008) With six weeks between races, Michael Jordan Motor Sports Suzuki riders Geoff May and Aaron Yates are eager to get back on their bikes at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California this weekend, July 18-20, 2008. Last season at Laguna, Yates qualified his Suzuki GSX-R1000 for a front row start in the September AMA Superbike event and earned third place podium finishes during both the MotoGP and AMA weekends. Having previously won in the Supersport and Superstock classes at Laguna Seca, Yates hopes to add a Superbike win at the track to his list of accomplishments. The weekend’s racing action includes the running of the U.S. Grand Prix (MotoGP) and an abbreviated AMA class schedule, with both Jordan Suzuki riders competing only in Sunday’s 28-lap (100K) Superbike event finale. Geoff May, who competes in the premier class on a production-based Suzuki GSX-R1000, looks forward to making a strong showing as well as using his track time to prepare for the team’s return to Laguna Seca for the AMA Championship’s full class schedule September 27th and 28th. In his first season with Jordan Suzuki, May has earned three podium finishes, including his first AMA National win. He is currently third in overall points in the AMA Superstock championship and ninth in the AMA Superbike standings. Yates, who qualified his Jordan Suzuki Superbike for the front row in the double round of AMA Superbike racing at Miller Motorsports Park, hopes this is the weekend he gives his crew the elusive Superbike podium finish. “In the past few weeks, we’ve spent a lot of time on the dyno, testing Superbike engine configurations,” said Pete Mauhar, Technical Manager. “We completed our design work on the front end, have a new clutch and ordered a few other parts, which should be delivered in time for us to test at Laguna.” This season, Yates has earned four top five finishes, an additional four top eight finishes and rode in third place for most of the 14-lap Superbike race at Miller Motorsports Park, proving he has the skill and Superbike power needed for a podium finish. Yates is currently eighth in overall Superbike points and only 31 points from the top five. The winner of this weekend’s race earns 36 valuable points toward the championship. Yates fans can see his 2008 Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superstock race bike on display in the Suzuki vendor area throughout the Laguna weekend. Yates is leading the AMA Superstock championship, which resumes August 1-3, 2008 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
