CCS Florida/Southeast/Mid-Atlantic and ASRA Roebling Road Raceway June 9-10 2007 Racers traveled from no less than 18 states to attend the CCS Regional and ASRA Team Challenge event at Roebling Road Raceway. Georgia’s Michael Smith showed up with a Kawasaki ZX-10R and took top honors in the sweltering heat. He ran away with his first win Saturday afternoon during the Unlimited Supersport race after nailing an early lead. North Carolina’s Seth Starnes was in hot pursuit on his Suzuki GSX-R1000 in a two-rider battle for the lead. Smith crossed the finish line in the seven-lap event ahead of Starnes with Ivan Milan taking third place by less than half a bikelength ahead of Alex Miniaci. Smith was out front again on Sunday during the Middleweight Supersport race after working his way through traffic from a third row start on a Kawasaki ZX-6R. He finished ahead of Florida’s Andres Londono and Greg Melka. Smith was gridded on the third row again for the Unlimited Grand Prix race and back on board the ZX-10R. Melka had nailed the holeshot on his Yamaha YZF-R1, but Smith and Michael Rouleau were not far behind as they worked through the first lap. Smith ran off the course in turn one at the start of the second lap and dropped back several positions. By lap four, he was up to third place and headed for the front. He took over second place on lap six and was in the lead for the final lap of the race. Melka finished second and Rouleau third. In his final race of the weekend, Middleweight Superbike, Smith was again gridded on the row three and had to work his way to the front of the field. He had taken over the lead from Melka in lap three and maintained his advantage to the checkered flag. Melka finished ahead of Londono. Londono finished the weekend even with Smith’s four first-place finishes. Londono won the Middleweight Grand Prix, GTU, Heavyweight Supersport and Heavyweight Superbike classes. The South Carolina team of Chucktown Moto with riders Kenny Rodriguez and Matt Huber won the Overall ASRA Team Challenge event finishing all 75 laps in under two hours. Rodriguez rode the team’s Yamaha YZF-R1 for the first half of the event, putting the GTO class entry in first place early on and keeping up a pace that eventually put them a full lap ahead of the other 13 teams. The race was completed in one hour and 45 minutes with the team running lap times in the 1:15’s. The Pioneer Ventures team of Joel Rogers and Sterling Eanes won the GTU class completing 53 laps. The GT Lights class was won by the Touring Sport Ducati team of Frank Shockley and Brad Phillips, completing 71 laps. And the Solo Challenge was won by Ivan Milan on a GSX-R1000, finishing 73 laps.
