Miller Motorsports Park Finalizes 2012 Major Event Lineup

AMA Pro Racing, SCCA World Challenge and IMSA support races inked TOOELE VALLEY, UTAH “” Officials at Miller Motorsports Park announced today that they have finalized the support-race lineups for their major 2012 events. For the Utah Grand Prix, which will take place April 28-29, the headlining NASCAR K&N Pro Series West will be joined by the SCCA Pirelli World Challenge Championship, the IMSA GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama, the IMSA Cooper Tires Prototype Lights Championship and the Pirelli Cup USA. The SCCA Pirelli World Challenge Championship will be making its sixth appearance at MMP, having raced here every year since the track opened in 2006 with the exception of 2009. The series is adding a new class for 2012, called Touring Car B-Spec, that will feature the hottest new subcompacts such as the Ford Fiesta, Chevrolet Sonic, Fiat 500, Honda Fit, Kia Rio, Mazda2, Mini Cooper S and Nissan Versa. The Utah Grand Prix will be the first-ever event for the new class. The two IMSA series, the GT3 Cup Challenge by Yokohama and the Cooper Tires Prototype Lights Championship, have raced here every year since 2007. The GT3 Cup Challenge features Porsche 911 GT3 Cup cars, with separate classes for new and older models, and launched 15-year-old Madison Snow of Pleasant Grove, Utah, into the national spotlight after posting two class wins at his home track in 2011. The Cooper Tires Prototype Lights Championship features three classes of small open-cockpit prototype racers, powered by one of two four-cylinder Mazda engines or a 1000cc motorcycle engine from Kawasaki or Suzuki. The Pirelli Drivers Cup USA is a semi-pro championship featuring Porsche 911s and Ferrari 430s. Miller Motorsports Park’s biggest event of the year, the BigM Weekend on Memorial Day Weekend, May 26-28, will feature AMA Pro Road Racing in support of the FIM Superbike World Championship. The AMA teams made a welcome return last year after an absence of two years and their four different classes — National Guard American SuperBike, Daytona SportBike, Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport and Vance & Hines XR1200 put on a terrific show for the fans. The Lucas Oil Offroad Racing Series, scheduled for the weekend of June 23-24, will also feature Cruiser Fest ’12, a gathering for aficionados of the iconic Toyota Land Cruiser.
