Yoshimura Suzuki’s Mat Mladin beat his teammate and rival Ben Spies by 0.035 second to win the AMA Superbike race Sunday at California Speedway. Mladin got out to an early-race lead that maxed out at 3.2 seconds, but Spies was able to close that gap, leading to a dramatic run to the finish. Eric Bostrom got the holeshot on his Yamaha YZF-R1 but was not able to match the pace of the lead Suzuki pair and finished third.
