Six-time AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin and former AMA Superstock and Supersport Champion Aaron Yates both crashed Sunday morning on the final day of the annual Dunlop tire test at Daytona International Speedway. Yates crashed first, losing the front end of his Michael Jordan Motorsports Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike in the new west horseshoe. According to Yates’ crew he was uninjured in the fall and continued riding on his second Superbike. The crew, meanwhile, repaired the minimal damage to the crashed bike. Then just before 10:30 a.m. local time, Mladin lost the front end of his Rockstar Makita Yoshimura Suzuki GSX-R1000 Superbike going into Turn One. Asked if he was pushing extra hard or testing front tires or doing anything extraordinary at the time, Mladin told Roadracingworld.com, ‘Nope. I just got in there too hot and ran out of talent. I’ve been wondering if I crashed if I would make it to that wall out there. My bike did, but I didn’t.” Mladin said he was uninjured and planned to continue testing. Mladin’s bike apparently suffered minimal damage in the crash.
