More, from a press release issued by FIM CEV Repsol Press Office:

Sensational day’s racing in Navarra, with victories going to Quartararo in Moto3™, Vierge and Raffin in Moto2™, Morales in Superbike and Jiménez in KZC

There was sun and high temperatures for the more than ten thousand five hundred fans who came today to the Circuito de Navarra to watch the sixth round of the FIM CEV Repsol.

The chaotic Moto3 race was stopped twice. Fabio Quartararo’s motor cut out on the grid, leading to the race start being reorganised and the race length shortened to 17 laps, with Quartararo being pushed back to the last slot on the grid. With the race finally underway, a spectacular fall by Remy Gardner after only a few corners forced the Race Direction to show the red flag. The Australian rider, despite having been thrown through the air and then run over by Rodrigo Gabriel, managed to limp off the track.

At 13:40 p.m. the Moto3 riders were back in their starting positions. The race length was halved, down to nine laps. With no time to lose, Fabio Quartararo (FRA-Honda) took off like a rocket, pulling out an insurmountable three seconds lead which he held to the finish line. Meanwhile, Jorge Navarro (SPA-Kalex-KTM) battled with Stefano Manzi (ITA-Mahindra) for second place, which finally went to the Spanish rider. Manzi was determined to hang on to his podium slot and fought an exciting duel with Nicolo Bulega (ITA-KTM) in a close final lap, before nerves go the better of him and he went down a couple of corners from the end, allowing his compatriot to take third place. The “One year’s free Repsol fuel” prize was awarded to Fabio Quartararo, who continues to lead the overall standings.

The opening event of the day was the first Moto2 race, led by Jesko Raffin (SWI-Kalex) until the halfway point. With six laps remaining, Targobank riders Xavi Vierge (SPA-Tech3) and Alan Techer (FRA-Tech3) broke away from the leading group and finally passed the checkered flag in first and third position respectively, as Edgar Pons (SPA-Kalex) slipped in to grab second place in the final meters.

With the temperature climbing, the second Moto2 race began. Florian Alt (GER-Kalex) rode superbly to set a rapid pace, fighting to resist the constant threat of Jesko Raffin (SWI-Kalex), but a few meters from the line the Swiss rider managed to snatch victory with a neat move. The Stylobike Bohle Gruppe rider garnered a valuable second place that provided some consolation for his withdrawal early on in the first round with mechanical problems. Xavi Vierge (SPA-Tech 3), in third place, earned a well-deserved 16 points to place him fourth overall in the standings. Edgar Pons (SPA-Kalex) and Alan Techer (FRA-Tech3) were less fortunate: despite occupying leading positions they were guilty of a jump start, and so lost touch with the leading group when they were forced to detour via pit lane. Best Superstock 600 rider was Bertin Thibaut (FRA) in both races.

In Superbike, Carmelo Morales (SPA-Kawasaki) made an excellent start to take the lead after the first few corners. The pole position rider maintained his lead, riding alone from beginning to end, to take the honours. Behind, riders formed several small groups that fought to reduce the gap. Finally, Santi Barragán (SPA-Kawasaki) took second position, followed by Kenny Noyes (USA-Kawasaki), who earned third place by working his way steadily forwards. The outstanding Superbike privateer rider was Alejandro Esteban (SPA-Kawasaki). With his fifth place finish today, Iván Silva still heads the overall classification.

Twenty riders in the Kawasaki Z Cup went head to head over 17 laps, with Jose Jimenez, Joan Sandanyons – leader in the overall rankings – and Francisco Valera taking the podium positions.

The next round of the FIM CEV Repsol will take place at Circuito do Algarve on 1st and 2nd November, where the seventh meeting of the season will be held.

More, from a press release issued by Palmeto PL Kawasaki:

Kenny Noyes, Third in Navarra; Now Just 4 Points Back

American Kenny Noyes (Palmeto PL Kawasaki) was hoping for cooler temperatures at the Circuit of Navarra, Spain, in the seventh race of the ten-race FIM CEV Superbike Championship. With a track temperature of 90 degrees Kenny was just a few thousandth of a second off the pole in morning qualifying, but when the track temperature went to 105 degrees on Saturday afternoon, he lost grip in the front. Similar conditions on race day meant that the team had to switch to a harder front tire that he had not liked in practice.

He got off the line with the leaders but he and championship leader Ivan Silva (Targobank BMW) both ran wide at turn one at the start of the second lap, dropping Kenny to fifth.

He and Silva battled for fourth until lap 13 when Silva, under pressure, ran off the track again at turn one. Once free of Silva, Noyes ran down Dani Rivas (Easyrace BMW) and took over third place. By that team the leaders, Carmelo Morales (Calvo Kawasaki) and Santiago Barragan (Stratos Kawasaki), were out of reach.

Noyes came into Navarra trailing Silva by 9 points, but was able pull to within just four points with three races yet to be run.

Kenny’s teammate, Venezuelan Robertino Pietri, had set-up setup problems when track temperatures rose. He was sixth but is still within 12 points of the leader with 75 points still in play.

Kenny Noyes: “For the first time this season we struggled to find the pace we needed. I think I could have gone with Barragan if I hadn’t lost time on lap two, but Morales was a little too quick here. My main objective today was to take points from Silva and we were together most of the race. I could pass him but his bike was faster than ours down the straight, so my idea was to leave it for the last lap because he could only pass us at the end of the home straight. I passed him several times to keep him guessing and finally he made a mistake. After that I caught and passed Rivas to take third. This was the track that most worried me at the start of the season. Now the top four are all within 12 points and we have two very challenging tracks, Portimao and Valencia, coming up and we’re feeling good about our chances.

Robertino Pietri: “I can’t be happy with sixth, but we missed the setup. I know we could have been on the pace, but the important thing is that we only lost one point to the leader and are still just 12 points back. I’ll have to be more meticulous in Portugal on the setup so I can attack and make up points. This track gave me a lot of trouble last year, so I have to thank the team for getting me a little closer to the podium.
