FIRST PERSON/OPINION Via e-mail: Regarding the article “AHRMA Motard Rider Tells Local Reporter That Mid-Ohio Course Shouldn’t Be A Problem For AMA Pros Next Weekend,” (~https://www.roadracingworld.com/news/article/?article=33428~)I’d like to share my opinion. During the AHRMA races this past weekend, some guy oiled the track Friday just before lunch and ruined Turns 7-10. This basically made practice in the afternoon useless, as they never really cleaned it up very well. On Saturday racing my 55-hp BMW in the BEARS race I was running in 5th chasing down the lead pack when it started to rain. As I am coming down the back straight into Turn 7 I get about 4-5 drops on my faceshield. Not enough rain yet to really slow down I thought to myself. Turn-in is fine, hit the apex and blamo, on the ground sliding. I got up and ran to the tire wall and out of harm’s way in time for two more bikes to come in right behind me, one of them hitting my bike on the way in. At this point the track does not even appear to be wet. By the time the bikes stop sliding there are something like nine bikes down. Red Flag lasts for over an hour. So I repaired my bike on Saturday night, and went out in Sunday morning practice, 4th session of the morning out of a possible six total sessions. Another rider doesn’t wire his drain plug and oils the WHOLE TRACK on the out lap. I get one lap before it is red-flagged. The last two sessions get no practice, as what amounts to a “cleanup” takes the rest of the morning. Races on Sunday are a little scary, as the slightest application of throttle on the line steps the rear end out. Roger E. and DMG/AMA need to not even try to run the pros in the rain at Mid-Ohio. It is crazy. They most likely will not even like it in the dry unless Mid-Ohio can get out there with some really good cleaning equipment to get the oil off the track.
