FIRST PERSON/OPINION: To: David Lambreth AHRMA Executive Director Mr. Lambreth, A Los Angeles based AHRMA member, Andrew Gray, received the attached postcard yesterday urging him to vote for candidate Debbie Poole. The postcard was sent via a bulk mail with return address registered to Chris Smith (daughter of AHRMA’s current Treasurer Jeff Smith). Andrew contacted you this morning to ask how Chris Smith and/or Debbie Poole acquired his address and other contact information. Your explanation to Andrew was that “AHRMA provides all Trustee candidates with the membership list for campaigning purposes” and that “Chris Smith sent these out as a favor to Debbie Poole” [both paraphrased]. I have a number of questions. 1. Is this postcard an official AHRMA mailing, since it features the AHRMA logo and was sent out by Chris Smith, the daughter of AHRMA’s current Treasurer? 2. Why were myself and other Trustee candidates not offered the same access to the AHRMA membership’s contact information that Candidate Debbie Poole was? 3. Is selective access to the membership list by Trustee Candidates AHRMA’s official policy under your leadership? Kay Mann (the wife of AHRMA Trustee Dick Mann, and a close friend of Debbie Poole) has been an outspoken opponent of candidates having access to the membership list”¦apparently unless the Candidate is one of Kay Mann’s friends. Please find enclosed a post from www.post-vintage.com discussion board where Kay Mann criticizes my attempts to contact AHRMA members for campaigning purposes. The two vastly different positions on AHRMA Trustee Candidates’ use of membership contact information is puzzling, and has conceivably benefited a select few Candidates who have access to the membership list. As AHRMA’s newly appointed Executive Director, please immediately clarify AHRMA’s official position on Trustee Candidates’ access to the AHRMA membership list. I think you’ll agree that selective distribution of the membership list to the candidates who are closely aligned with AHRMA’s current administration could easily skew the AHRMA Trustee Election. It’s a matter of fundamental fairness that either all candidates should have had access to this membership list, or none should. You can’t have it both ways. Sincerely, Alice A. Sexton Candidate for AHRMA Trustee
